Fire Giancana meeting

Post by Antiliar »

Does anyone know anything about this or even if it's true?

"Fire Giancana meeting Held at the home of Tony Accardo to dismiss Giancana and take over the Chicago Crime Syndicate. Those present were Sam “Teetz” Battaglia, William “Willie Potatoes” Daddano, Felix “Milwaukee Phil” Alderisio, Rudolph “Rudy” Fratto, Frank “One-ear” Fratto, and Albert “Obie” Frabotta - all related by blood or marriage. The meeting was a success and Sam “Teetz” Battaglia would be boss, ?15 January 1964."

Look up some of the names together in Mary Farrell and the Chicago Tribune archive and no such meeting came up.

Try the January 16, 1964 edition of the Tribune. That appears to be the source of it.

Thanks, Snakes. That must be it. I typed "Fratto" as one of the keywords and he misspelled it as "Fratta," so it didn't show up. I wonder if Louie Fratto was the informant.

Has Lew Farrell been outed as a CI before?
The article never mentions Accardo's name.
Quite an omission.

Yes, Ed wrote an article about it a year or so ago.

I have Fratto's FBI file but haven't looked at it in years. I should reread it to see if there's something I overlooked.

I don't think Fratto was cooperating by 1964.

A potential source for the information could be Tony Girolami. Girolami was an influential member of the Democratic Party machine in Chicago. Beginning in the early 60s, he fed the FBI Intel about the Outfit, including who was up and who was down.

He told the FBI that Battaliga was the boss beginning around 1964. I think he got much of his Outfit gossip from Pat Marcy. But like I said, just a guess.

I doubt Girolami was feeding this info to the Feds but anything is possible. The CTE that was giving his opinion about Battaglia was also talking ABOUT Girolami. Girolami was the 28th Ward Democratic Committeeman. The 28th Ward was a Cerone stronghold along with the 30th and 37th Wards.

In addition, more than one political associate gave info regarding the top admin and during one period the Outfit was aware about it and so at one time Ricca and Accardo leaked fake news so they can trace the informant and i think that they thought it was D'Arco but they were probably wrong

Again, not saying Girolami was the definite source for the "Fire Giancana" meeting. I haven't seen the original FBI documents. My point was more that Fratto was unlikely to be the source since, according to my understanding, he began to cooperate much later.

But Girolami did provide info about Battaglia's potential promotion.

Girolami was CG 6498.

https://www.archives.gov/files/research ... 292724.pdf

In October, 1964, Girolami told the FBI that Battaglia had been promoted and may have replaced Giancana as boss.

https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.htm ... 2&tab=page

This was a number of months after the alleged "Fire Giancana" meeting but I thought I'd put it out there. There are other documents where Girolami comments on Battaglia. But like I said in my original post, just a guess that he was the source.

I agree that other political operatives were feeding info to the FBI and never said Girolami was the only one.
