Hey guys first time, long time. I don't usually have anything to add to the discussion but I do on this.

According to Joe Valachi testifying at the McClellan hearings, when the books opened around 1954, Frank Scalice and Albert Anastasia initiated a couple of hundred members and some of them were "commercialized" as Valachi puts it, paying $40,000 to become a member. According to him they were "kids there who was with Frank Luciano" one called JoJo.

Later on in his testimony, Valachi lists several members who were initiated by Scalice. These include Jimmy Squillante, Jerry Mancuso, Aniello "Wahoo" Mancuso, "ch*nk" Leo, Frank Rocci, Tony the Geep, Mike the Geep, Carmine Camarado, Jimmy Ward, Salvatore Bonfrisco, Jojo and Dudu. Valachi indicates they all paid $40,000 to become members. He also says that some paid with their business and then never saw their business again.

Great stuff. Thanks for posting. Interesting that even though they bought their way in Jimmy Squillante, Arthur Leo and Tony "The Geep" Sedotto were promoted to Capos not long after the scandal broke.

Squillante paid for his membership? Damn, that's surprising. Seems like if they made capo they had enough pull to get made without spending 40k but who knows.

This shows how much more money there was in the mob back then that so many guy's were able to afford the 40 grand. Adjusted for inflation that would be a guy paying 375,000 in cash today. Can't imagine there are that many associates today that can swing that.

Relating to Biondo's role in the administration, this is the first I've heard of him being Mangano's consigliere. I'm new to the forum and I've only heard of Philip being his brother's no. 3 so I'm curious as to where this started

It comes out of the 1963 McClellan Committee, otherwise known as the Valachi hearing. The charts were put together by the Justice Dept. using info from task forces, the FBI, local police, state police, and the Bureau of Narcotics. They did the best the could at the time, but obviously made mistakes.
