The hammer comes down next week in Philly
As Sentencings Approach, A Look At Mob Ties In FirstPlus Case
The defense, however, argues that the entire FirstPlus investigation was built on a shaky foundation and that the convictions should be overturned as a result. The position of Pelullo, Scarfo and the Maxwells (who have joined in the motions) is that the government started out looking for organized crime and was determined to find the mob no matter what the evidence might show. In fact, the defense has offered detailed information about the origins of the probe which, they say, wasn't about a takeover of FirstPlus, but rather an effort by the FBI to track the younger Scarfo's attempt to retake control of the Philadelphia crime family his jailed father once headed. That, at least, is the information contained in an FBI affidavit that is part of the case. In that light, Scarfo was involved in more than one power grab when he and Pelullo took behind-the-scenes control of FirstPlus back in 2007 and siphoned more than $12 million out of the company. At the same time, the FBI document indicates, Scarfo was also maneuvering to re-establish himself in South Jersey and align himself with mob figures who might support his underworld power grab. Few details of that scenario surfaced during the FirstPlus trial, but the jury heard that Scarfo was a member of the Luchese crime family; that his jailed father had set that up through Vittorio "Vic" Amuso, the Luchese organization boss serving time with the elder Scarfo, and that both Scarfo Sr. and Amuso were to get a piece of the FirstPlus take. The two aging mobsters were named unindicted co-conspirators in the FirstPlus case.

Re: The hammer comes down next week in Philly
I had been wondering what was going on with this thanks for posting. Kinda sad scarfo jr gonna get probably 30 years when most people not named scarfo would do no more than 10 for a similar crime

He's a predicate felon in the Federal System. He'll get what the Federal Guidelines call for, which is upwards of twenty-something years. Now if you want to say that he would never have been on the Feds radar if it wasn't for his last name, then I'd tend to agree with you. Either way, he's gonna get hammered. He's fifty now. He'll be a little old man when he walks out.Pete wrote:Kinda sad scarfo jr gonna get probably 30 years when most people not named scarfo would do no more than 10 for a similar crime
Christ, what's he got to look forward to? A Lucchese button at seventy-five years old? If you think the Brooklyn Luccheses (namely the two Georges) came home to nothing, this will be even worse because hardly anyone in New York knows him to begin with. If he has half a brain he'll flip the minute his father takes his last breath. But with this kid's luck, his old man will outlive his sentence. And all kidding aside, doesn't the father have longevity in his genes? I think I read somewhere that one of his parents lived to be a hundred. But I could be mistaken about that.

Old man Scarfo will probably outlive the son.
Who can the kid flip on at this stage of his criminal career? And if he did flip how successful would any of it be for the feds?

Re: The hammer comes down next week in Philly
True enough. He doesn't know shit about the Bronx and Westchester Luccheses (where the power lies today). He was made through North Jersey as a favor to his father. And by most accounts I've read he's not very popular in Philly. But his name is still Nicky Scarfo. I think the Feds would love to have him on Team America for that reason alone. But who says he'd even flip? That's not what I was implying at all. I'm just saying that he's probably coming home to nothing in twenty years.rayray wrote:Who can the kid flip on at this stage of his criminal career? Re: The hammer comes down next week in Philly
I agree 100%. Team America would love him just because he's a Scarfo. And they would love to shove that in his old mans face, probably thinking it's the only way the old man will die, have his own blood rat on LCN.
Kid Scarfo should have just walked away, opened up a bar/resteraunt, do real estate, hell, do nothing if he had the money. He always seemed to be able to make money but yet be a black sheep, inside but yet always looking in.

All kidding aside, he should have done what Merlino did. But for real. He should have relocated to South Florida and opened up a nice classy joint on the Intracoastal or something like that. Because even with a gazillion wiseguys vacationing down here in the winter, it's still the easiest place in America to wash away your past and start over. Nobody fucking cares what you did yesterday in South Florida, let alone what you did ten years ago up north.
His father could have just as easily reached out and set him up down here, especially considering that his old man loved the Lauderdale area so much. He had to know that with the name Nicky Scarfo that getting his button with a New York family was going to draw the ire of the Feds. But I guess hindsight is 20/20.

Re: The hammer comes down next week in Philly
Florida would have been the perfect place, Fort Lauderdale is a great area too, a good choice--better then Vegas. Nicky Scarfo is just LCN through and through, doesn't think with ordinary commonsense, hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he looks at jail as just being part of it and accepts it for being what it is and better then being dead. In his own way, having the kid made into the Lucchese's was saving his life, being a good father. Nick wasn't thinking of having his son run away to Florida like the rest of us would have thought of or done ourselves.
Fort Lauderdale or Palm Springs out in Cali would have been great places to start over. Nobody would have cared.

I love Palm Springs. I have an uncle retired out there for over twenty years. He's in his 90's and still plays golf. Right before we bought our place in Delray and started splitting our time between New York and Florida, Palm Springs was a serious contender for where we'd end up. But my in-laws live in Jupiter full-time now, so that's where my wife wanted to buy. So we compromised. And we ended up a whole half hour away in Delray. No good deed goes unpunished.rayray wrote:Fort Lauderdale or Palm Springs out in Cali would have been great places to start over. Nobody would have cared.

Re: The hammer comes down next week in Philly
Can't go wrong with either place.
Palm Springs is definitely on the top of my list to retire to. If you're ever in Palm Springs in and around Thanksgiving try Sherman Deli's pumpkin cheesecake,
man-o-man! When I was out there I went there almost every day, even if it was just for coffee. I like the laid backness of that area and it's not as expensive as people would think being out in Cali. The only problem, being from the Northeast, I know it's going to be scratched off the list. My aunt and uncle moved to Arizona, and her family being a typical close knit Italian family from North Jersey, the move was just shocking, moving away from North Jersey is Toms River! Now, they want everyone to move out there, Arizona! They should have acted accordingly and moved to Florida lol....easier to get to.

I went to Coachella Festival years ago and we had a day to kill, so we drove to Palm Springs hoping to get a private tour of Sinatra's compound or maybe see Joshua Tree. Sinatra's place was rented out that week for a private affair, so we just walked around a bit and ended up drinking at some dive bar the whole afternoon. Forget the joint's name, but the locals called it a dive and we were thinking: "These people don't know what a dive is." It was so beautiful there. The whole Coachella Valley and Palm Springs is something else. So beautiful. That goes fora the women too. East Bronx, did you catch the pm I shot you a few day's ago? Posted my new Pope of Greenwich Village poster and wanted to say hello.

According to leonettis book this is what nicky jr wanted to move away and get out of the life but couldn't leave the area as he took care of his grandmother and brother mark and there was no one else that could do it and staying in jersey he remained a huge targetEast Bronx wrote:Yup.rayray wrote:Kid Scarfo should have just walked away, opened up a bar/resteraunt, do real estate, hell, do nothing if he had the money. Re: The hammer comes down next week in Philly
That's sad. I usually bring up Craig DePalma as the example because it's pretty close to home for me, and his story is so fucking tragic. But I've never seen it end well for ANYONE who got shoved into the life by their father. It looks like Scarfo Junior is no exception. If that's all true, I feel kinda bad for him.Pete wrote:According to leonettis book this is what nicky jr wanted to move away and get out of the life but couldn't leave the area as he took care of his grandmother and brother mark and there was no one else that could do it and staying in jersey he remained a huge target

Re: The hammer comes down next week in Philly
I can't feel bad for the younger Scarfo, being in his 40's and his father in prison for the last two plus decades he could have just walked away and done his own thing. Instead, he gets himself mixed up in things that can end up with him spending the rest of his life in prison. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize your last name is going to have people looking, even if you walk away and become legit.
