Re: Successor of the Corleonesi clan
What's very interesting are the long term connections between certain groups, usually regionally based. Under the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies the island was divided into districts- distretti or mandamenti. That's where it comes from. For instance, the district or mandamento of Corleone covered the communi (cities and towns) of Corleone, Prizzi, Chiusa, Bisacquino, Contessa Entellina, Roccamena, Palazzo Adriano, Giuliana and Campofiorito. During the pre-war period, each could have had what Sangiorgi called a caporione, but there was no boss to cover a given district similar to what a mandamento is today. In pre-war times, the next level was the regional, provincial or supreme boss. Today a regional or provincial boss is over a capomandamento and is subordinate to the underworld Commission, whereas there was no higher authority than the regional boss before World War II.2. What does anyone know of an Antonio Sciortino?
Or an investigation code named New Madamento? Supposedly it was a plan to create a " Super Clan" uniting the families of Camporeale, Monreale, Partinico, San Guiseppe Jato, Altofonte, Borgetto, Montelepre, and Giardinello. Been trying to look into it...
Rick and I covered this in our article as it played into chain migration and how these groups formed in the States.

Re: Successor of the Corleonesi clan
it's very weak compared to 1980s (when it was at its peak) and weak compared to 1990s but still strong enough to rebuild in a little while if not pressed by government/police, in other words still powerfulSonnyBlackstein wrote: ↑Thu May 24, 2018 6:07 pm How would one rate the power of the Sicilian mafia now compared to the past successive decades? Ie now vs 2000’s? Now vs 90’s? Now vs 80’s etc etc?
Are they rebuilding, all encompassing, on the fringes, in retreat, ignored? Etc etc.
sicilian mafia is involved in everythings (aside prostitution and loansharking because mafia members can't do it in sicily, they jusy ask protection money to pimps/prostitutes and usurers) drugs, gambling, extortions, money laundering, management of public works, robberies etc.

I always thought Toto's only brother died along with his father by an explosion. It's because I recently saw Capo dei Capi again.

Question....
Is being the boss of the Corleonesi , still mean what it did in the 80s?
Is it possible there is a new faction or coalition of clans in power?

I could not understand the question of the '80s.
In relation to the corleonesi that are still left, of the radical era only Leoluca Bagarella that has been imprisoned since 1995.

He also has the son of Riina, Giovanni Francesco Riina, who as well as Bagarella has been in prison since 1996

Re: Successor of the Corleonesi clan
No to your first question. The Corleonesi were at the top of the Sicilian Mafia and Riina is probably the closest to being a true boss of bosses. No boss or clan in Sicily today has that kind of power.CabriniGreen wrote: ↑Sat May 26, 2018 11:01 pm Question....

As to the second question, I don't know about now. Going back to the early-mid 2000s, Antonio Rotolo (Pagliarelli clan and Corleonesi ally) had established a coalition of clans before he and several other Palermo bosses were arrested in Operation Gotha. At that time there was conflict between Rotolo and San Lorenzo boss Salvatore LoPiccolo. After Provenzano was arrested, LoPiccolo was reported to be the top boss. But he was arrested himself in 2007.
All roads lead to New York.

in the 2000s I thought the Ndrangheta , Camorra and LCN all joined together forming a "super group "Wiseguy wrote: ↑Sun May 27, 2018 8:43 pmNo to your first question.
