Re: Montreal Mafia status - Post Rizzuto Era
No doubt that Raynald Desjardins has had a glorious criminal career on the Montreal's organized crime scene for several decades.
Of course, he owes his fame and prestige to the fact that he was the son-in-law of Joe Di Maulo, a member of the Calabrian clan during the reign of the Cotroni family. After the death of Vic Cotroni, in 1984, he joined the Sicilian clan, led by Vito Rizzuto. Already, at that time, Desjardins commanded a lot of respect in the underworld. He had cultivated strong relationships with bikers, namely with members of the Hells Angels Chapter, Quebec City.
Rizzuto soon realized that using Desjardins as a "go-between" between the mafia and the bikers, it would facilitate the development of large imports of hashish and cocaine in Eastern Canada.
As for the Cotronis, Rizzuto believed in the importance of using French Canadian gangsters who had a great knowledge of the Montreal and the Quebec province criminal milieu. These criminals were at the service of the mafia. They were neither more nor less than a "tool" for the mafia. They enjoyed fame and somewhat prestige, but not the advantages of being « made » member of the organization. And Raynald Desjardins was one of those.
We will never know exactly why Desjardins, once a faithful and loyal associate of Vito, decided to turn against the Rizzuto family. Today, he is paying a heavy price. Doing a 14-year sentence for plotting the murder of Salvatore Montagna, at his release, he will have spent much of his life behind bars.
I don’t see him coming back on the streets anymore. His aura had faded away for good.

Unless his health has been as bad as has been mentioned I don't see it. If Desjardins is still alive when his release is up, he will will always be a player in Montreal. He's too far gone at this point and him and Mirarchi together they'll die before getting out of the game.Laurentian wrote: ↑Fri May 11, 2018 5:27 amI don’t see him coming back on the streets anymore. If I didn't have my case coming up, I would like to come back with you gentlemen when this is over with and really lay the law down what is going on in this country.....

Re: Montreal Mafia status - Post Rizzuto Era
Boucher would've been up for Parole in 2022 if he hadn't gotten mixed up in the Desjardins murder plot. They probably wouldn't have given it to him, but he's got less than 0% chance of ever getting out now.
