I agree about the Leonetti book. That book was a masterpiece. I wish he would do a North Jersey Book with Pete the Crumb Caprio.Wiseguy wrote: ↑Thu Mar 29, 2018 12:18 pmThis is what Pogo and myself were talking about for years, including back on the RD forum. Sal Profaci a Columbo Capo? Maybe 30 years ago. But now? Why can't he use the term 'FORMER'? Why? Profaci hasnt been a Capo in decades yet is this mentioned? Is this even alluded too? Nope, "Columbo Capo Profaci as laid to rest..."
Ambiguity would be a generous term in this circumstance.

See the stupid thing about what Scott does is not understand his audience. He's not the NY post and his audience are schooled in mob lore. So Scott, if you're listening, stop the out and out right lying. Stop the deliberate ambiguity which fools no one and is click-bait for another, ignorant audience. I agree with this post also. A lot of juicy details on the Colombo Jersey crew, from Sal Profaci, Lambardino, and the Cagno's who were originally with the Campisi's.SonnyBlackstein wrote: ↑Thu Mar 29, 2018 1:11 pmAnd contrary to what it APPEARS, I also have nothing personal against Scott. Re: Sal Profaci dies at 81
I’ve dealt with Scott Burnstein on several topics relating to the Midwest. I’ve spoken to him on the phone for hours at a time. I found him to be honest, educational and a gentleman. He’d be the first person to respond to a private message if you had questions pertaining to his writings. Keep in mind that maybe a few of his sources for families outside of his immediate area aren’t as credible as some of his sources in his specific area. Not his fault. His job is to report what the sources are telling him.SonnyBlackstein wrote: ↑Thu Mar 29, 2018 1:11 pmAnd contrary to what it APPEARS, I also have nothing personal against Scott. Re: Sal Profaci dies at 81
Profaci must have been out of the game for decades. He even escaped the Cagno Indictments and he was their Capo....supposedly ... I would have imagined if he was really active he would have been indicted since Rocco Cagno flipped. He was really a NY guy who moved to Jersey. BUT he didn't have that Newark based history that the Cagno's and Randazzo did. Yet he became their capo and is the ONLY one in that crew to escape indictments in the late 80s and early 90s. Makes me wonder how active he really was in NJ thru the mid- late 90s and early 90s. Yeah they got him on Tape with Stanfa's attorney but at that point you would have to think he was just some elderly statesman etc. I mean the guy was loaded with a successful legit business and really didn't need any illegal income from LCN crews pretty much thru out the 80s and 90s etc. I know they shelved him after or doing the Colombo wars. BUT I don't even think he was active in illegal rackets for a long time by the point. He didn't need it. He was a legit wealthy guy.
Re: Sal Profaci dies at 81
I'm always open to constructive criticism. Designations aside, the point of that story (which I was the first and only to report) is that Sal Profaci died. Should I have referenced he's was inactive at the time of his passing, I probably should have. That's on me and it is valid to call me out on it.
I don't think anybody is "out to get me," and I'm obviously not perfect (reporting on this stuff is not an exact science). That said, I stand by what I have written and will always acknowledge if I've made a mistake (Papa Smurf Franco). I am proud of the fact that I've developed solid sources in four major OC areas (Detroit, Chi., Philly and NE) and that over the last decade I have been able to break some big stories. Guys like Jerry C and George A have taken an interest in my work and have mentored me and for that I'm tremendously grateful. Some of the vitriol on the message boards surprises me, but hey I'm a big boy and I'll absorb it and learn from the experience. Anybody can contact me and I'll respond (Hoosierscott@aol.com).

I respect you taking it that way Scott.Spoken like a gentleman. I loved your Leonetti book man, you gotta get another guy like the Crumb and do a book with him. I know how it is sometimes, I can pick apart and dissect books and articles with a fine tooth comb. Feel free to run anything by me at yatescj77@gmail.com. Not looking for money or anything. 1) keep doing what you do. Especially if you enjoy it because it's rare that people actually get to do someone they love to do.
2) You made honest mistakes and admitted it. Its not like you are writing fiction and passing it off as real like Philip Carlo.
3)You do the research to the best you can and you write some good stuff.
5)Stop being so polite and just tell someone to Fuck off ..there are no gentlemen here....we are all morally bankrupt here...

Speak for yourself Rocco. That´s a general statement that might not apply to everyone on here. And no matter who the author or poster is, when obvious errors are identified, they should be pointed out. I agree that SB should keep doing what he does. His books are generally held in high praises and I´m happy he wants to post here.Rocco wrote: ↑Sun Apr 15, 2018 3:27 pmBurnstein:scott22 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 13, 2018 11:46 am I'm always open to constructive criticism. So lets address this. Scott, most people, myself included, want to like your work. We do. Its our passion and interest. You therefor get a willing audience, one that forgives errors and mistakes. We think you're a nice guy. We do, and we're tolerant of confusion, misunderstandings, informants, sources and the general common mistakes of any prevailing zeitgeist given to any different family/situation/era/consensus.
So that being said, this is why the 'vitriol'. Time and time again your 'mistakes' are to the sum of their parts, not, mistakes (If you have the google box. You do, have the google box?).
You have a forgiving audience to say the least. Yet the commonplace and the severity of your errors exhausts patience and forgiveness of 'errors' and 'sources' beyond all normal indulgence.
Scott, off the top of my head, you posted Detroit had 50+ members. You were roasted and then offered apologies. Then we had KC which recently you kindly broke down the whole corporate structure of their 'functioning' family and now its Sal Profaci in which you're 'astonished' you'd receive such vitriol for 'simply not specifying' he was retired and the 'Carmine thing'? Well that was just a mistake...
Fool me once Scott, you've heard the line. This is the 'learning curve', this somewhat educated audience forgives mistakes, but yours are so continuous, consistant, easy to collaborate, rectify and NUMEROUS that well, your audience just loses patience.
Here it is: Detroit has 50 members, mistake? cool, forgiven. KC has a viable setup? Jeez youre pushing the line, Sal Profaci Columbo Capo and Carmine the Westisde Capo...Vitriol. You see how we got there?
Trust takes time to build and is easily lost. You lost the trust early and have been riding nice guy and journalist coatails ever since.
Rebuild the trust with non bullshit articles (with no 5 second google remedied mistakes) and we'll lose the vitriol. And maybe you'll start to rebuild the trust.
And maybe you'll sell more books.
People buy Volkman books once, if you catch my drift....

I read his article about the Bonnano Soldier and there is no exaggerated bullshit. It is well written factual statements in several small paragraphs that get right to the point each time. Very informative. Thanks for sharing Sonny, I like the writer and will read more of his articles.SonnyBlackstein wrote: ↑Sun Apr 15, 2018 11:44 pm PS
