Re: Sal Profaci dies at 81
Shit like this is why Scott Burnstein is basically untrustworthy at best and an out and out bullshitter at worst in the world of reporting on LCN.
Sal Profaci a Columbo Capo? Maybe 30 years ago. But now? Why can't he use the term 'FORMER'? Why? Profaci hasnt been a Capo in decades yet is this mentioned? Is this even alluded too? Nope, "Columbo Capo Profaci as laid to rest..."
Ambiguity would be a generous term in this circumstance.
Point two: Franco is.....a Genovese.......CAPTAIN!?!
Anyone with an IP and 1.3 minutes of spare time can get themselves a free chuckle at disproving this bullshit statement. No ambiguity in time-frame to hide under here Scotty boy. Just made up headline crap. ASSOCIATE vs CAPODECINA. Learn the difference mate, its not small.
See the stupid thing about what Scott does is not understand his audience. He's not the NY post and his audience are schooled in mob lore. So Scott, if you're listening, stop the out and out right lying. Stop the deliberate ambiguity which fools no one and is click-bait for another, ignorant audience. You're peddling to those that KNOW a little, READ a little, PAY ATTENTION a little.
So if you want respect, stop the bullshit.

Good post Sonny! Agreed 100 percent. If Scott wants to be taken seriously by people who have followed the Mafia for a couple of years, he will have to step up.
There you have it, never printed before.

Sonny is right. I knew when I saw the headline I would reason the Goodfellas kill Goodfellas shit. His whole story should have said, "Sal Profaci, some of Mob Boss Joe Profaci died at age 81.

This leaves Carmine Persico, Sonny Franzese and Vinny Aloi as the remaing members from the Profaci era syndicate.

I guess you could say Albert Gallo too even though he transferred to the Genovese Family.Pogo The Clown wrote: ↑Thu Mar 29, 2018 9:46 am This leaves Carmine Persico, Sonny Franzese and Vinny Aloi as the remaing members from the Profaci era syndicate.

Gallo was made in the Genovese family during the 70s. I'm only counting Profaci era made members.

This is what Pogo and myself were talking about for years, including back on the RD forum. Many accused us of being out to get Scott. Im reality, it was never anything personal. Just that he was often sloppy, starting with the whole Detroit thing. But that's not to say he can't do good work. I did like his Leonetti book.SonnyBlackstein wrote: ↑Wed Mar 28, 2018 10:14 pm Shit like this is why Scott Burnstein is basically untrustworthy at best and an out and out bullshitter at worst in the world of reporting on LCN.

And contrary to what it APPEARS, I also have nothing personal against Scott. In fact it’s actually the opposite. I WANT to like him. He could provide a greatly appreciated niche service, reporting on the mob inside and out of NY. He is (apparently) a journalist who has a market which is hungry for news and media on this now little covered subject. He’s well liked by several serious researchers on this forum.Wiseguy wrote: ↑Thu Mar 29, 2018 12:18 pmThis is what Pogo and myself were talking about for years, including back on the RD forum. That’s what makes garbage like the above so frustrating. He could provide a valued, used resource, instead its manufactured click bate headlines with shoddy research at best or outright misleading content at worst.
It’s just so disappointing.

His articles about the present day Outfit are no different. He is selling SENSATIONALISM many times so there is an interest to buy one of his coauthored books.SonnyBlackstein wrote: ↑Thu Mar 29, 2018 1:11 pmAnd contrary to what it APPEARS, I also have nothing personal against Scott.
