Members who have switched families

Post by johnny_scootch »

Sonny and I were talking about this in a different thread. Does anyone know of any other examples of members switching families besides

Cola Gentile (Philly, Pittsburgh, Schiro & possibly San Fran)

Joe Valachi (Gagliano, Maranzano, Luciano)

Robert Vaccaro (Lucchese, Gambino)

Jimmy Frattiano (L.A., Chicago, L.A.)

Johnny Roselli (L.A., Chicago)

There was a guy who's name I can't recall was a member of both the Patriarca and Profaci family at one time or another, I keep thinking of Sonny Mercurio but thats wrong.....anyone know who I'm thinking of?

Bianco was orginlly a NE Associate but was made by the Colombos and later switched back to NE. Here are some more.

Girolamo "Bobby Doyle" Santuccio, Peter "Petey Muggins" Mione, Stephen "Buck Jones" Casertano and John "Johnny D" DeBellis all switched from the Gagliano family to the Luciano/Genovese family in 1931.

Charles "Charlie" Batts" Battaglia switched from the LA family to the Bonannos in the 1960s. Carlo Licata also switched from the LA family to the Detroit family around this time.

I guess we can add the Newark family members that went to the NY families when the Newark family was disbanded.

Jimmy Fratianno was originally affiliated with Cleveland

Jimmy the Weasel was Cleveland through and through. He was sent to L.A at the behest of Tony Milano because Scalish wasn't opening the books. Essentially, the Milano family ran things in L.A as well. I hear ya about being made in L.A., but he was still widely respected in the Midwest as well until he flipped.

Rosario Anselmo only member in Sicily to change family.

Rosario Anselmo member of Porta Nuova wanted to marry sister of Raffaele Spina member of Noce family but he was opposing it because Anselmo was from poor background. Buscetta advised him to run away with the sister and so Spina had to accept marriage. After this Calcedonio Di Pisa claimed Anselmo as member because of this but Salvatore La Barbera argued against it to the mafia commission who gave Anselmo to Noce family.

Cavataio, Mariano Troia, Salvatore Manno and Nino Matranga used this as well as the missing heroin to frame La Barbera for murder of Di Pisa and this is one of the events in the leading to the first mafia war.

Frank Illiano and Albert Gallo went from being associates of the Profaci/Colombo to the Genovese (thought there were others that followed the two?)

Sammy Gravano was with the Colombo's to the Gambino's

In Piitsburgh, Stan Valenti, son in law to powerful Pittsburgh Capo Antonio Ripepi, and his brother Frank Valenti, both made in Pittsburgh, broke off and took over the rackets in Rochester with full support from Frank Amato/John LaRocca. Also, longtime Pittsburgh Capo, Sal Marino, from Sharon, PA went out to California with his son Angelo Marino and ran the rackets in San Jose under the protection of John LaRocca's cousins Pasquale & Alfonse in San Francisco as well as Boss Jimmy Lanza.

Sal Marino operated the Sharon Cheese Company and after his son Angelo, boss of San Jose, moved the cheese company to Cali, they sold it for tens of millions to Sorrento Cheese Co.

Also, Stefano Randazzo, made in Cleveland, transferred down to Tampa and became Traficante's driver and a made soldier under the protection of John "Peanuts" Tronolone, former Consigliere of Cleveland based out of Hallandale Beach, FL.

Also, James "Jack White" Licavoli and his brothers were originally part of St. Louis, moved to Detroit and while Yonnie & Pete stayed around Detroit, James Licavoli settled in Cleveland and became boss (by default and nepotism).

Pasquale "Patsy" Feruccio, made in Cleveland in the 1960's became a liaison between Cleveland and Pittsburgh and was considered the Mafia's leading expert on video poker machines, as his vending company had several patents. He distributed these to every mob family in the country for a long time. He also got a cut from every machine that his company, Liberty Vending distributed. In the early 1980's, right after the Pittsburgh-Cleveland war that lasted 6 years, he had LaRocca and Jo Jo Pecora in Pittsburgh talk to Jack White about coming over. Licavoli hated Feruccio, they had a beef in the late 1940's and they each wanted to kill each other but the bosses always made them hold peace for the family...Angelo Lonardo, who was a man of reason and always did what was best for business advised Jack White to let him go for $500k, which Feruccio paid in cash. He had an antique Rolls Royce worth almost a cool $million.

Chicago wrote: Johnny Roselli belonged to Chicago. He was sent out there to oversee the Union Activity in Hollywood. He relayed orders to the L.A.Family when required.
Never heard of any Outfit guy OF MADE STATUS ever switching to another Group.
When the C.I.A. wanted to contact Giancana, they even went through Roselli who reported direct to the Top Bosses in Chicago.

According to former LA acting boss and one time Outfit member Jimmy Frattiano......Johnny Roselli was made into the LA family and transferred to Chicago when Jack Dragna died. Check out the book 'The Last Mafioso' by Ovid Demaris it has a ton of interesting info on LA, Chicago, San Fran and the rest of the Western families.
