Operation Old Bridge

Post by jimmyb »

So I'm looking at the indictment against Joseph Agate et al.
http://news.findlaw.com/hdocs/docs/orgc ... 608ind.pdf

My understanding is that this is the "Operation Old Bridge" indictment. I'm looking through it and I don't see anything about transatlantic connections with Sicily. Am I missing something?

I'm hoping the Gambino specialists will advise me on this.

Thanks,
JB

This is the "Old Bridge" indictment from February 7, 2008. "Operation Old Bridge", as I remember it, was a joint investigation between U.S. and Italian authorities. The indictments were separate, one here and one in Italy. The actual indictment in the U.S. didn't necessarily mention the investigation from the Italian side. I'll go through the Detention Memo and see if any mention exists there.

Old Bridge was from a decade ago. Iron Tower was from the late 1980s.

jimmyb,

I have only ever consulted the Italian-language government document (PDF) found at http://static.repubblica.it/palermo/pdf/Old_bridge.pdf. I think you will find some of what you're looking for in relation to the Gambinos (Family, family).

My own interest in the document many years ago was because the file indicated the comings and goings of Filippo Casamento and Giovanni Inzerillo in Canada--in Toronto in particular. Many forget that at one point, the two had originally planned to fly from Sicily to Montreal but then suddenly changed their itinerary by flying to Toronto--this is per law-enforcement investigators in Montreal who called their colleagues in Toronto to advise of the change.

Awesome guys, I appreciate the feedback. I'm looking at the Gambino Family's transatlantic connections. Hopefully publish something---basically theoretical criminology and use this as my case study. I'll have more questions/comments soon. Thanks Chaps and antimafia.

Not sure if anyone posted this, but looks Filippo Casamento died in 2016.

Btw: I thought the Gambino Zips had their own thread on the Forum but I couldn't find it. Did I imagine that? I thought it was like "Gambino Sicilian Faction" or something like that.

Thanks

Thanks for letting us know, jimmyb.

I managed to find a link that has the full obituary:

Does anyone know whether, apart from Casamento's sister Carmela, he had a niece or other living female relative named Carmela? A daughter-in-law so named? Would his sister Carmela be the president of Eagle Cheese? have been the president at one time?

Many years ago I posted on the Real Deal a photo of the business card you see in the photo I took today. I had been in the store and obtained the business card after having made a purchase. At the time, I had no interest in organized-crime research and I knew very little about either the history of organized crime or current events related to organized crime. I certainly didn't know who Filippo Casamento was, let alone that he started up Eagle Cheese. Many years later, once I did learn who he was, I've always wondered whether the woman who served me that one and only time I was ever in the store could have been Filippo's sister Carmela--would she have worked there if she was the president?--or another of his female relatives, related to him by blood or marriage.

Hey, antimafia

I was looking through the Pennsylvania crime commission reports and don't see any other Casamento family members mentioned. The book "Last Days of the Sicilians," however, does mention "Frank Casamento." Seems like he was involved in his brother's drug operation.

Btw: I have a question for the administrators. I'd like to start a thread about the Gambino Sicilians. Can we just fold this current thread into that?

Thanks,

Antimafia, yes, it was his sister working there. The Casamento's are 9 bros. Only Filippo and Franco lived in the Usa anyway.

jimmyb,

Thanks for that additional information about Filippo's sibling Franco (Frank).

felice,

Thanks for confirming Carmela's having worked in the store. Thanks as well for the extra details about the size of the family and who lived where.
