There have been plenty of cases of guys who've flipped who've served long sentences (or who are serving). Frankie Sparico is an offhand example.

The thing is, nicodemo has no one to blame but himself for doing this 30. Proper planning prevents poor performance... then getting caught with the gun, using his own truck? A bone head.

That could be complicated due to Nicodemo's conviction being a state conviction. Cooperating with the Feds is different. I would imagine these two agencys would be fighting over Nicodemo if he is willing to cooperate. I would imagine the state would do everything they could to make him cooperate with them instead of the feds. Nicodemo's attorney probably just pushed for this so he could be closer to his family etc. Or they could have moved him to a shitter facility in to break him into cooperating . Who knows.
