I know when certain people in Cleveland were asked who do I need to go to in the Chicago area about something. The Sicilian people in Cleveland/Akron area referred to the Sicilian Rockford Dixon area around 1980.
The Ohio angle is interesting. I have FBI files from the 1980s related to the northern Illinois narcotics ring that note telephone calls from Rockford LCN underboss Frank Buscemi to Cincinnati, Ohio as well as Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Bloomington, Illinois as well as his international calls. I'm not aware of who the Sicilian contacts in Ohio were, however.
Other Rockford area pizzerias that were under FBI surveillance in the 1980s and 1990s were:

Sam’s Pizza, 2134 Charles St., Rockford, Illinois (owned by brothers Salvatore and Alfonso DiGiacomo)
Sam’s Pizza 130 N. Blackhawk Rd., Rockton, Illinois (owned by Alfonso DiGiacomo)
Sam’s Pizza 1031 Harlem Rd., Machesney Park, Illinois (owned by the DiGiacomo brothers and Mike Galluzzo.)
Sam’s Pizza 138 N. State St., Belvidere, Illinois (owned by the Alfano family)
Pino’s Pizza 2216 N. Main St., Rockford, Illinois (owned by Antonino Pipitone)
Perrecone’s Pino’s Pizza 5851 Forest Hills Rd., Rockford, Illinois (owned by Paul and Marie Perrecone)
Villa Di Roma 1620 Harrison Ave., Rockford, Illinois (owned by Antonio Buscemi)
Villa Di Roma 3457 Merchandise Dr., Rockford, Illinois (owned by Antonio Buscemi)
John’s Pizza 2914 11th St., Rockford, Illinois, (owned by Giovanni F. Frisella)
Other places under surveillance from 1992-1994 also included:
Vince’s Pizza 1112 Madison Rd., Beloit, Wisconsin (owned by the Gabriele family)
Domenico Pizza 534 E. Grand Ave., Beloit, Wisconsin (owned by the Gabriele family)
Sam’s Pizza 1313 Milton Ave., Janesville, Wisconsin (owner unknown)
De Ja Oo Club 1600 S. Bell School Rd., Cherry Valley, Illinois (owned by Salvatore “Sam” Galluzzo)
Bino’s Restaurant 6935 11th St., Rockford, Illinois (owned by Alberto “Bino” Seminerio)
Ross’ Restaurant 807-809 E. State St., Rockford, Illinois (owned by Phil DiGiovanni)
The Pizza Joint Restaurant 2815 11th St., Rockford, Illinois (owned by Bill Spears)

I did find this excerpt from a March 31, 1987 FBI file:

"Drug section, CID, concurs with above purchase scenario in view of current Title III coverage by Chicago, and spin-off attempt to another Chicago Sicilian group. They are also necessary in view of the time constraints of the overall UCO. The original Group I UCO was funded in the amount of $760,000 in purchase of evidence funding. To date, $26,000 had been expended for drugs, although there is a pending request for a $20,800 "buy" between San Francisco and Buffalo out of "Busico" funding."

I'm wondering what the other Chicago Sicilian group is that was never prosecuted.

When Aiuppa and Alex took over or should I say, when Accardo took over, the dope business within the Chicago Outfit went on a much lower level but there were still some so-called outlaws who still supported the activity and were possibly connected to some Sicilian imports allegedly backed by the east coast Mob and also by other factions from the Illinois area. But the thing is that there were some seperate factions within the Outfit who during that period allegedly secretly imported dope from the Mexican cartels and possibly the Columbians. It was sort of a cold war between the Mexicans and Sicilians and Chicago was in the middle...

@Villain-
Now, I am all about the connections and found something interesting that may tie in to a cartel, northern Illinois and the LCN.

On March 12, 1991 twenty-seven people were indicted by a U.S. District court grand jury on charges to distribute cocaine in the Rockford area and southern Wisconsin. This conspiracy, according to federal prosecutors, started on January 1, 1986 and was called the “Mauerman Organization” as it included many member of the Mauerman family. Edward P. Mauerman, Jr. was called the drug ring’s kingpin and this organization brought more than 176 pounds of cocaine into the Rockford area over the next five years. Mauerman was friends in Florida with two brothers named Ramon and Juan Castellanos who used to live in Belvidere, Illinois. The Castellanos brothers and Mauerman arranged to have the cocaine shipped north to Rockford through various couriers and once in Rockford, the cocaine would be repackaged at different locations and then distributed throughout Rockford and southern Wisconsin. One of these locations that the cocaine was repackaged at was Jackson Auto Sales on 11th Street in Rockford. Bill Spears was the owner of record for Jackson Auto Sales and this business was under FBI surveillance relating to Rockford LCN capo Sebastian “Knobby” Gulotta.

Spears and his wife were arrested in May 1985 on charges of possession and intent to deliver marijuana and cocaine. Police confiscated over $7,000 in cash, four to five pounds of marijuana and 30 grams of cocaine from their home at 2413 Alton Street. On April 1, 1992, Spears was arrested once again when he was found with one pound of cocaine strapped to his ankle. According to the local newspaper he was considered a major drug dealer in the area and his arrest was at the time the largest one-person drug bust in Winnebago County history according to Winnebago County State’s Attorney Paul Logli. Narcotics officers also seized a safe from the Spears home which contained seven kilograms of cocaine. That and the cocaine strapped to his ankle made the total retail value about $2 million.

Additionally, Spears owned the Pizza Joint restaurant which was next door to Jackson Auto Sales. In 1991 the FBI described the Pizza Joint at 2815 11th Street as “a known hangout for Rockford LCN members.” It is quite possible that Spears was involved in the Rockford mob’s narcotics distribution given that he was the owner of two businesses under FBI surveillance regarding the local syndicate. Currently, the 59 year-old Spears is in the Winnebago County jail on an April 21, 2016 arrest for manufacturing and delivering cocaine and marijuana as well as being an armed habitual criminal.

Interestingly, there is a pizzeria in Rochelle that is owned by a Cassola whose wife is a Badalamenti and both are from Cinisi, Sicily.

You probably know it already but Pietro Alfano's son (Peter) is married to the grandaughter of Vito Badalamenti brother of Gaetano "u zu Tanu". I think Badalamenti's are no longer mafiosi except Vito and Leonardo sons of Gaetano.

Now that is news to me. Was this granddaughter also a Badalamenti? I am always fascinated by the far-reaching connections.

Yeah. Her dad was the son of Vito which makes Gaetano her dads uncle. I'm quite sure her dad was not a mafioso.

Her mother is a Bommarito...I dont know if she is one of the Detroit ones.

Her parents wouldn't happen to be Salvatore Badalamenti and Dorotea Bommarito would they?

Got it, thanks. Of the two I mentioned, the Bommarito was related to the Zerilli and LoMonaco families, who figured into the St. Louis, Detroit and Madison families respectively.

This Emanuele had an uncle Emanuele who was a member of Detroit family so it makes sense. But good to understand they are the same Bommarito family.
