They are the exceptions to the rule. Chin has 50 kids/ relatives clean and living well for the 2 which BRIEFLY followed him in, and now themselves are inactive.
His point still stands.
As stated his son Vincent Esposito is a made member of the genovese family. Him and gotti both have one made son. What's the difference?
The Gotti clan is akin to the Persico's, where the life is an institution for male family members.
The Gigante's it's an exception rather the rule.
Looking at their respective families in the larger context I think the difference is quite clear.
It's funny you said this because I was just talking to a friend last night about the perna's. Now we grew up around them and other families that traditionally the kids followed their dads or uncles into the life. Like if you read the operation heat transcripts it paints the picture for you quite accurately. Joey, Johnny, and Ralph even (who is legit but still is involved with the gambling) grew up around gambling and the street . In the one convo with Ralph rj and joe they're arguing over money that joe supposedly owes Ralph from when joe was away and Ralph held it down. And joe goes,"ask daddy is you got anything coming to you." Like this is normal shit. I could never allow my son to do the things I did. If he got involved in the street it would break me apart. I pray everyday he makes the right choices in life. But Mr. Perna like straight up raised his kids in this shit . And I know mr perna and I actually like him a lot. He's not a violent man, he's a money maker. Even he was raised in the life. The taccetta's and perna 's both. But I think to myself how could he have let his kids get into this shit? Especially Johnny who was so smart and got the scholarship to seton hall. Like he should have guided him and encouraged something else. But Johnny was going out robbing drug dealers in Newark and then gong back to seton hall campus. Running a huge package. It's crazy . I don't know this is a personal thing for me.
Big difference. The father lived the life, breathed the life, believes in the life. To him, nothing more honorable then involving his children. He is made and part of a family.
In the past, I think it was you alluded to getting involved in street crime on a low level because you "thought it looked cool on sopranos" your own words, unless I am mistaking you for another jersey guy.
Apples and oranges.

I might have spoken about the sopranos and the effect it had on guys my age coming up. That wasn't why I got involved with low level crime (book, drugs, stolen stuff). My uncle is still very much invoked with the life. He's not made but he counts. The rest of my family are cops, firefighters, and legitimate hard working people. Now the drug dealing was something we were introduced to very young. I grew up in Clifton from 9 years old on. Before that I lived in paterson. When we moved it was five blocks over the border. Paterson had a huge Italian and Irish population at one time until eventually it became hispanic, African American , and other ethnic groups. Getting a package and the gambling was something we also ALL grew up around. That's normal shit out here. When the sopranos came out I was 13 and had just started selling weed. It glamorized (at least to a young kid) the street. So it kind of added fuel to a fire that was already lit for a lot of kids my age. That wasn't why we got involved with shit. As far as the Perna's and mr p having his kids follow in his footsteps. I don't know if that was what he wanted for them and seeing them get their button was his proudest moment. From being around him it seemed the oopposite. He obviously encouraged johnny to go to college and Ralph the son has a legit job. I dont think he wanted them involved but he didn't stop it when it started going that way. As a father myself I couldn't imagine bringing my son into something that will undoubtedly take years from his life (incarceration) and although not as much of a possibility as it used to be, get him killed.
Most of you wouldn't be comfortable in my playground.
Pretty sure that is Marty's son Mike. They each named on of their kids after their brother etc. MIke T son Martin is named after Marty etc. Marty's son Mike is a good kid. My Nephew is friends with him. Grew up together on East Hanover. He's 110% Legit. Carlo is the only one involved. Angelo's Marty son died in the early 1990s Carlo was driving his cousin when they crashed. Angelo(Martys kid) was killed. Very bad time for the Taccetta's the early 90s were not kind to them. Mike T has another son I believe that lives in Vegas last I heard. I forget his name.

Yea I was young when that happened but I remember the story. That's terrible. Mikes son Martin is a great guy. Humble and hard working.

It sounds like we will find out who some more of the cooperating witnesses are in this case soon:
Judge fears for witnesses’ safety in mob bust
Brooklyn prosecutors and lawyers for 10 reputed mobsters squabbled Monday over recordings that will reveal the identities of cooperating witnesses — as a federal judge expressed concern that mismanagement of the tapes could result in those very witnesses getting whacked.
“The concern is the ultimate witness tampering — that a witness actually dies,” Brooklyn federal court Judge Dora Irizarry told the lawyers for alleged acting Bonanno capo Ronald Giallanzo, the nephew of aged and admitted wiseguy Vincent Asaro, and his cohorts.
Elderly ‘Goodfellas’ mobster slips and falls in jailhouse shower
Someone get this wiseguy a MedicAlert.
The aging Bonanno capo who famously dodged prison after being brought to trial for the 1978 Lufthansa heist made famous in “Goodfellas,” slipped and fell in the jailhouse shower last week — and couldn’t get up.
Vincent Asaro, 82, looked stiff and haggard during a brief appearance in Brooklyn federal court Monday for his new arson case, as defense attorney Elizabeth Macedonio told Judge Allyne Ross her client was hospitalized after the shower slip at the Manhattan Detention Complex.
Macedonio added that her client was only discovered lying on the shower-room tile floor because she miraculously went to visit him that day.
It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

These guys are 3rd Generation. Remember that Ralph Sr and MIke Perna's own father was involved in the same racket waaay back when the Italian lottery was the biggest ticket in town. Their father was associated with the Lucchese family and Sometimes the Genovese and Bruno mob. He was loanshark and Bookie. More of a loanshark . This is all they know. While today's generation are not killers or involved in anything more then simple assault or threats of it to collect. They are not killers. They like the idea of it. And I think that's why you have Lil Joe buddying up to Joey Merlino. Because Merlino is everything Lil is Not. A gangster. A murderer etc. Today's Perna clan are just a bunch of guys controlling a large network of bookies. And if you are going to be in that life. Sports gambling is the where its at. You can make allot of money without the worry of doing 40yrs in prison. With no murders of course. lol If you look at the family tree of all the NJ mob families you will see the same thing. The Ricciardi's father was involved in the life. His kids grew up idolizing Petey Black Campisi.,and ALL of the Ricciardi's got involved when they grew up. Only one was a killer (Tommy) but that was a different time. Guys got killed back then. Today not so much. You got disrespect a guy at the top like Meldish did to Madonna. Though allot of guy would have let that slide due to the unslaught of LE pressure that follows a murder. But to a guy like Madonna who spent 80% of his adult life in prison. He doesn't give a fuck if he dies in jail. Its home to him. But as a whole the cowboy days are long gone.
John Gotti grandson’s family sings his praises in bid to help him evade federal prison time
The Gotti clan is begging a Brooklyn federal judge to show mercy on the grandson of the notorious gangster. John J. Gotti is no tough guy in need of a lesson for his link to a 2012 car arson — he’s a nice, young man who’s battled demons, made mistakes and deserves a second chance.
That’s the chorus from more than 20 relatives and friends speaking up for the 24-year-old who’s looking at federal time on top of the eight-year state sentence he's already doing for peddling painkillers in Queens.
Honestly I don't buy the fact that Johnny gotti was "in the grips of an opiate addiction" while he was pushing 5k blues a month.. he's smiling in the perp walk the morning he got raided. If he was a real junkie he would have looked like complete shit already withdrawing. Just an easy out to claim the addict card whenever you get popped selling drugs. Easiest way to get leniency and court ordered rehab etc...
