yeah that's the guy. Its funny that Skins really knew everyone in Caberts crew very well. He also knew all the crew members of the Genovese, Bruno and Luchese guys. Yet he had to get made in Brooklyn. Shows you how run down the Gambinos were and still are in NJ. Especially the Newark area. The Luchese, westside and Bruno family ate up the gambling rackets that the Gambino's had after Cabert went down. They never recovered from that. All they have now is that half ass crew that Andy Merola put together that was short lived. Strange that the Gambino's being so big never really focused on rebuilding the Gambino Newark crew. And please don't mention ZEKE and FUnzie. They might live in NJ BUT they were ALWAYS NY guys and they crew members of NY going way back to the late 60s. They were never part of the Newark and North JERsey LCN groups. THey were not even well known to Newark guys back in te 70s.. 80s and 90s. Re: Colombo family outside BK/LI?
what about him? he was an old guy people went to talk to. what about his big crew? that's right he didn't have one...the newark/cabert crew burned out, Buddy musk was working cconstruction after he got out from the cabert indictments. guy was working. that shit with merola was on the side. his full time gig was working. when cabert was running the show buddy was a full time gangster. He wasn't a gambler. he was the muscle, extortionist and thief. When he got sick he was 85% regular working schlep / %15 thief.... Gambinos haven't had a capo with half a dozen soldiers in Newark for a very long time,Hailbritain wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2017 10:34 amWhat about mitarotonda ???Rocco wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2017 10:27 amyeah that's the guy. Not that I have some real inside info like Rocco but I know a lot bookies, friends around the industry etc. and I have almost never heard of a Gambimo gambling package where as WS, Luch are everywhere, literally.
And today unless your selling drugs , every NJ crew has sports gambling as a core money maker . Those 2 fam are the main players in NJ with the WS involved in all kinds of white collar rackets from the shore thru Bergen county. DeCav seems to have a few things going on and Philly has some gambling

Re: Colombo family outside BK/LI?
Yeah I was agreeing with him as he is very knowledgeable. I have no info but still have never really seen any Gambino gambling stuff. They must have some gambling activity but it likely no where near the huge packages the other 2 crews have .
Doesn't make sense to me as today it's evolved to more suburban activity and with the volume they handle , crews are making tons of $ on their sports book so north jersey should be highly sought after . Surprising they walked away from that. Trying to link up with the Decavs and maybe even Philly would make sense IMO

Re: Colombo family outside BK/LI?
For what it's worth, an old poster on GBB (one of the few good ones) named Skinny gave this breakdown of Jersey/gambling a few years ago.
For the Genovese family, he said the Fiumara crew went to Anthony "Tona" Borelli and Stephen DePiro. One of the biggest sportsbooks in Jersey is run by John "Blue" DeFroscia, who is with Borelli.
He said guys in the Bruschi crew includes Rocco Petrozzo
and Michael Cardito.
He said the Gatto crew was split up between Silvio DeVita/Anthony Palumbo and Dominick Cirillo. Phil Danoia runs one of the biggest sportsbooks in Jersey and guys under him include Carmen Cicalese, Lou Amendola, and Angelo and Anthony Masulo.
He said Larry Dentico inherited Bobby Manna's guys when Manna went to prison.
He said Joseph "Pepe" LaScala is a captain who's been a street guy and bookie since the 1960's. But he's only become a captain out of attrition. He oversaw some of Angelo Prisco'so guys in the past. Skinny said that, unlike most Genovese captains, LaScala has never done work and is not an especially big earner. No construction or trash interests but just sports and loans, which is how he has stayed relatively low key. But he does own PayPerHead.com (based in Costa Rica, Vincent Curatola ie "Johnny Sac" from The Sopranos did their ads) and has a nice football route in Bayonne (about 20k stubs a week).
For the Lucchese family, he just mentioned Ralph Perna and Frank Paoloercio.
For the Bonanno family, he just Paul Mancuso's package, which is actually with Anthony Palumbo's book.
For the Gambino family, he just mentioned Nicholas Mitorontonda. Guys under him included somebody with the nickname "Catnip," as well as Vincent "Juicy" DiModica and a guy named "Joe Faffy," who ran that crew's main book but they are more into lending and the Laborers Union.
He didn't mention the Colombo or DeCavalcante families.
For the Philadelphia family, he mentioned Joseph "Scoops" Licata, and under him wire Vincent "Beeps" Centorino, Lou Fazzini, Joseph Darchi, Dennis Christy, and the Olivieri brothers.
For the Genovese family, he said the Fiumara crew went to Anthony "Tona" Borelli and Stephen DePiro. One of the biggest sportsbooks in Jersey is run by John "Blue" DeFroscia, who is with Borelli.

So basically he put together all the common knowledge available on the Jersey Crews and put a "I heard it on the street" slant to it.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

You are 100% dead on . NJ Sports Gambling has been Dominated by the Genovese, Lucchese, Philly and Decavs. And in that order. Lucchese have a huge book for their seize. But WS has many crews. They also have allot of smaller gambling rings that are run by people mostly working off debts while still be allowed to bet. Gambino's never really came back. They lost most gambling in North Jersey to the Westside, Bruno and Luccheses. Lucchese has made a major push out to the burbs of Morris county in the last 25 yrs too.TommyNoto wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2017 1:33 pm Not that I have some real inside info like Rocco but I know a lot bookies, friends around the industry etc. and I have almost never heard of a Gambimo gambling package where as WS, Luch are everywhere, literally.

I think the Gambino's have focused on growing crews in Long Island to be honest. I think they have their biggest Gambling rackets in the burbs of Long Island.

I find it hard to believe Philly with one decina in jersey would have a bigger book than the whole DeCav family with its 40+ buttons.

Re: Colombo family outside BK/LI?
Possibly. God knows we see that all the time. But the Gatto crew being split up (assuming that's true) and LaScala owning PayPerHead.com was news to me.Pogo The Clown wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2017 8:33 am So basically he put together all the common knowledge available on the Jersey Crews and put a "I heard it on the street" slant to it.

It's true, there's only been a few Gambino-related gambling cases in Jersey going back to 2000.Rocco wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2017 10:12 amYou are 100% dead on . My question is, while various crews may have a guy or two active in Jersey, or some interests there, how many crews are actually based there now?
The Genovese have several. Five?
The Luccheses have one.
It appears the Colombos don't have any.
The Bonannos maybe one?
The Gambinos maybe one, if at all?
The DeCavalcantes, of course. The North Jersey Philadelphia crew appears to be rather small.
You mean one crew in North Jersey?SonnyBlackstein wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2017 12:14 pmI find it hard to believe Philly with one decina in jersey would have a bigger book than the whole DeCav family with its 40+ buttons.

Re: Colombo family outside BK/LI?
Sure. But even if they have another south jersey crew, I don't know much about Philly' set up, that's still one, maybe two crews vs a family.

Re: Colombo family outside BK/LI?
Looking at the cases going back to 2000, if we're talking about all of New Jersey, including South Jersey (traditionally Philadelphia territory), the Philadelphia family seems to have been quite a bit more active (both in gambling and in general) than the DeCavalcantes.SonnyBlackstein wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2017 1:32 pm Sure. Looking at the DeCavalcante cases, there were bookmaking charges included in the big indictment that hit the family in the late 1990s/early 2000s. But that was a joint operation with the Gambinos and Colombos. Then in 2003, a few DeCavalcante guys were indicted for bookmaking and other crimes. Then a decade later, in 2013, a DeCavalcante associate was charged with running a "pick 6" lottery operation. That's about it. Meanwhile, over the same time period, the Philadelphia family has had a lot more - and bigger - gambling cases.
The DeCavalcantes are still a viable family but they are at the bottom of the 9 families left.
