By the way, what do you know of the Bommarito family from St. Louis, especially the time period from the 30s and 40s?
Also dug up that Vito Impastato was identified in September 1933 by Milton Newman of Peoria, Illinois as one of the men that kidnapped him. Others identified were Patsy Aiello, Frank Longo, Joe Caiola, Tony Campo and Charles Fenello. Fenello, whose real name was Charles Supino, was mowed down in Streator in 1937.
In February 1930 Impastato was one of three men who robbed the Riverton State Bank and in November 1930 Impastato and Frank Agrusa were accused of kidnapping Sam Scorfina.

That is a very good point... the Springfield LCN always baffled me because it didn't seem like a crime family should have existed there. I know Frank Zito and some others were there as early as 1915 but the family's ties to St. Louis were always strong. I guess if I get some time I should try and see where the early members hailed from in Sicily to see if that is a clue.

Look forward to your findings. Maybe you ought to contact Daniel Waugh and see if he's got anything to say. There might be a couple St. Louis experts here too. I don't know if poster Dopey is still around, but he was one.
Philadelphia-based heroin dealer Benny Zito of the Pizza Connection was from San Giuseppe Iato and the nephew of Giuseppe Ganci. Seems he would be a relative somewhere down the line of the Illinois Zitos from SGI.

That could be something worth researching as the Rockford contingent was involved in large scale heroin and cocaine importation/exportation that included contact with Buffalo, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Australia and Sicily.
This is the building at the site of the murder. I wasn't able to get into City records to see if its the actual building that was there when Troia was murdered. And it wasnt the kind of neighborhood to get out and start closely inspecting to see if anything was a later add on to an older structure.

Nice, clear pic! Regarding the murder, the Trenton Evening Times described the building as a "small candy store," so I would bet the building is the same one.
