Aniello Dellacroce's private army?
The Armando Rava crew spawned Dellacroce and Fatico crews. In turn, Gotti came in and eventually took over for Fatico and had a close working relationship with Dellacroce over the years, with Dellacroce being Gotti's mentor. Both Rava and Dellacroce were Albert Anastasia supporters with Rava being murdered in Florida and an attempt on Dellcroce's life all on the orders of Carlo Gambino.
I don't know much about Rava other then he goes back to the bootlegging days and was most likely involved in narcotics. I'm assuming this because of what JD posted in the Gambino pic section in response to another. I found this very interesting because it was mentioned about associates that were narcotic men reporting directly to Dellacroce himself. Dellacroce/Fatico came up under Rava, Gotti came up under Fatico, like Dellacroce, Gotti was surrounded by a lot of junk dealers. If Rava was somehow involved with narcotics arm of the family, I'm assuming that's why Dellacroce/Fatico/Gotti all followed suit.
With Rava being a very strong ally of Anastasia I'd see why Carlo Gambino would want him gone. Dellacroce was also to go but was spared and proved to be a loyal Gambino supporter. This must have been done to keep the "blue collar" members in line, I'm also assuming that the Dellacroce and Fatico crews had a close relationship to each other. Two very powerful crews that CG would want to pacify to a point. Two separate crews with a lot of drug men connected to them.
Many years down the road we see the tension between Castellano and Gotti, but I'm thinking this tension is just a spill over from the Albert Anastasia/Thomas Rava/Carlo Gambino days? I'm thinking that if Paul Castellano viewed himself better then the Gotti's of the world that Carlo Gambino viewed himself better then the Anastasia/Rava's of the world. After all, there's a Anastasia/Rava/Dellacroce/Fatico/Gotti connection vs. Gambino/Castellano connection...
Am I over analyzing the possible tension that could have been there between these factions for decades that eventually lead to Castellano's murder? It's like a full circle, Gambino kills Anastasia and Gotti kills Castellano.
I also find these associates reporting directly to Dellacroce interesting, makes me believe that the narcotic division of the family was highly guarded/protected even though it may have been frowned upon by some very powerful leaders.
(The two separate posts by JD)
Frank Rubino was not a made member of the Bonanno Family. He wasn't with the Bonannos at all, he was a Gambino Associate and part of the group reporting direct to Aniello Dellacroce in the mid-to-late 1970s. One of Rubino's in-laws recruited Thomas Pitera to help out with the murder but that was it as far as Bonanno involvement goes.
Consalvo brothers, Lino brothers, Frank Rubino, Salvatore Pisello, Ernest Grillo, Carlo Lombardi, Ciro Riccardi, Salvatore Scala to name a few. Most were drug dealers and about half of those listed wound up murdered.

rava dies because hit murdered roberts ,
Re: Aniello Dellacroce's private army?
Rava was last seen Nov.24 1957, at interview for Appalachian attendance with police. Robilotto isn't hit til Sept 1958.bronx wrote:rava dies because hit murdered roberts ,
I believe he was knocked for his close relationship with Anastasia and his growing dissent over the Anastasia hit .He was a major player in the family and Gambino and co couldn't take the chance

Re: Aniello Dellacroce's private army?
Dellacroce wasn't the "underboss" really, he was the second boss.

Hairyknuckles posted a great thread about the Rava/Dellacroce crew on GangsterBB. I am not going to post his work here but if you look it up it is very good and informative.
Yeah, there was disagreement on here about when Rava was actually killed, and it got kind of ugly so I am going to stay out of that specific part. I have my opinion on it based on several things but I'll leave it at that.

I really enjoyed that post rayray, I had no idea about Dellacroce being an an Anastasia supporter and Gambino wanting him killed because of it... makes you think Dellacroce must have had a grudge against Carlo

Re: Aniello Dellacroce's private army?
How large was this blue collar faction that supported Dellacroce? How many crews in total?
Re: Aniello Dellacroce's private army?
I must of missed that thread. Can you link it...what was the information that came from it because these were the only dates Ive ever seen associated with Ravas disappearance. I know there are informant versions on Mary Ferrell saying Rava and Dellacroce killed Roberts but that contradicts the other informant report that details the roadside killing by Toddo Aurello that says late 57 or 58.Cheech wrote:Dimagio those timelines were proved wrong in another thread
I don't know of a later confirmed sighting of Rava than the Nov 24 57 police interview, is there any more info on that?
Re: Aniello Dellacroce's private army?
EDIT. Sorry...just looked up the Magadino thread where this was discussed.
Not to start up again but I didn't see anything concrete on the date of Ravas dissaperence, just several conflicting informant reports that suggested him being killed later.
