I was disputing them based on recent lack of activity but more on the size of the books as you need multiple millions in yearly action to fund a crew . Big money maker with scale but low margin for sure . Apologize for any misunderstanding

And I agree video poker appears to be a big focus for the outfit which is very telling as it is less contact with people and requires far less people to run , just muscle into a bar / restaurant and collect every week or 2 and also you usually have a legit front in the making of these machines to launder the $ . Seems to be a strategic decision to lay off the sports bookmaking as if they wanted to these crews could probably run big tens of millions book but theirs a downside to that with the busts, heat , rats and headlines that could lead LE to other areas and jam up crews . Tons of $ tho which is why the easy coast guys are knee deep in it and no way IMO could leadership even try to limit this activity .

Marco damico and tony dote supposedly run a huge book which makes sense when you see how these guys live with no legit income. Organized crime will always go where the money is which is why they were in front on the video poker stuff. Keep in mind with internet gambling sites their piece of the pie gets smaller all the time. Maybe the confusion here is in comparing it to NY. It could never be that big being that NY probably has around 700 made guys and depending who you ask the outfit is around 30 or so. Do they have big books? Sure but nothing in comparison to NY

That's a fair point Pete but I am going to argue the internet has allowed wise guy sports books to be even bigger today than before. Back in the day sports books were more of a neighborhood thing ( very generally speaking) but w Italians moving into the burbs and the ease with which the internet allows people to gamble you can have guys in queens getting a ton of action in Brooklyn with the bank of the book being literally 5-10 guys removed from the gambler , there wasnt that far of degree of separation back in the day. Today you have NYC guys doing tons of action all the way in Philly . No #s to support this obviously but I know the book thing pretty well so it's a hunch .


I also see your point on size of NY books vs Chi but I'm going to have to respectfully disagree, again lol. Chicago still has a ton of people and a ton of gamblers so a single Chicago capo IMO could probably have a huge book . In NY and NJ there is so much competition that I could walk out the door Mon and by Friday have 10 books to bet into . And now that I think about it there are so many wise guys in the NY / NJ area that they are probably forced to do so much retail bookmaking ( $25 bet minimums ) to earn as there isn't nearly as much blue collar work compared to 80s and even 90s ( hijacking , robbery , fencing , drug dealer kidnaplong etc.) where as in Chi things aren't so tight so a few successful rackets works economically

Now I obviously do agree that LCN sports book making is going on but my hunch is it's servicing a far smaller customer base , maybe only dozens or so guys they know and more Importantly whales , no $25 type betting lol .

Like I mentioned before having a big sports book brings in tons of $, + relationships that could lead to other things but these thousand of customers books in NY and NJ really open your up to law enforcement , investigations , knowledge and also rats. Chicago IMO in much tighter in things ( probably because they can based on numbers ) and just ain't gonna open themselves up like that . It's actually a very disciplined strategy and IMO a security thing ( but due to less competition can do it lol ) . In Ny and NJ there would be a freaking war if they tried to reign things in on gambling lol.

You are making a lot of assumptions about NY. The NY families have bigger books than in Chicago. The numbers speak for themselves.

I'm not sure why some have assumed NY mobsters are always stepping on each other's toes. One reason there's 5 families and hundreds of members in the first place is because the extended NY metropolitan region can accommodate them. We're not only talking about the five boroughs but also Long Island, Westchester and some other counties north of the city, parts of Connecticut, and North-into--Central New Jersey.

I also read one report that covered gambling in the U.S. It said the Northeast, by far, had the most gambling. Not just in terms of total number of gamblers but, for whatever reason, people in that region were more prone to gamble.
