He liked to say he was his cousin, but according to Brandt & Sheeran they weren't related. I've seen conflicting info though.

I have seen no proof through geneaology that confirms that they were related. I am not 100% certain, but I have not seen anything supporting that.

Bufalino was heavily tied into NYC's garment industry because a majority of the dress and garment manufacturing facilities were in Northeast PA (Scranton, Pittston, Wilkes-Barre). It was a steady source of income for him for over 5 decades.

Thanks JCB, this quote from his obit says a lot about Bufalino's power and influence.

Bufalino's influence stretched into Binghamton and possibly Rochester, N.Y. He was a powerful figure in New York City because of his association with the Genovese family. In the 1960s and 1970s, Bufalino was temporarily head of the family, according to John Philip Jenkins, a criminal justice professor at Penn State. His notoriety went beyond the Eastern Seaboard; nationally, he was one of the most important Mafia bosses.
"There's a theory that the Mafia in the United States is run by a `National Commission,' made up of New York's five families and five or six members from other cities. Bufalino was one of the most important on that commission for 30 or 40 years," Jenkins said.

I've still seen no actual evidence that supports Buffalino being acting boss of The Genovese, at any point . Personally , I think its a load of crap.

The Bufalino family also had people in Florida and a piece of the garment center in NYC in addition to their members in upstate NY. A pretty well connected small family.

Wish people would quit bringing it up, it's so ridiculous.
All roads lead to New York.
