Pogo
Damon/Affleck have another script on Whitey that I read blows away the storyline of Black Mass.

But I thought I heard that one was off after Black Mass was released? I would rather see their version though.

They did have another version of Black Mass but they scrapped it and wrote another one based off of Whitey's rise in the Winter Hill Gang

I thought the looks were all right but that sinister voice they came up with sounded nothing like Whitey.

Whitey just sounded like an ordinary Irish douchebag from Boston, there was nothing scary about his voice. You can hear him talk a lot in that USA vs. James J. Bulger (or whatever it's called) documentary.

I don't understand why it's important to some people that the actor look like the real character the role is based on.

I agree. Creating his own persona of Whitey is what dramatizes and makes for a more creative film IMO. However, it may have worked better in a fictionized film like The Departed. If you weren't expecting an identical Whitey, I thought Depp played a very dark role.

I think it makes a difference if the character is well known. Most of us would have issues if Abraham Lincoln was played by a short beardless guy, or George Washington by a dark-haired bearded actor. Joe Pesci got away with playing Thomas DeSimone because few people knew what the real DeSimone looked like. When Pesci played Spilotro, on the other hand, he was made to look like him since Spilotro was familiar to a lot of people. People know what Whitey Bulger looks like and they also know what Accardo looked like. When John Turturro played Sam Giancana in Sugartime it worked, not only because of his acting, but because there was a facial resemblance. But actor Maury Chaykin didn't look anything like Accardo so for me he wasn't believable. For me it would have been better if they'd picked someone else to play the role of Accardo. In the case of Stallone playing him, the jury's out since we haven't seen him in make up and in character.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

Well to me it's dumb to want to look for Accardo yet nobody even remotely looks like him.

And I agree on Depp's voice. He sounded nothing like someone out of Southie. They made him out to sound sick from the start and that killed it for me. Granted I still watch it when I'm bored, but I watch The Departed more than Black Mass.

Going back to Travolta playing Gotti, you know, he's such a strange looking guy anymore he looks more normal in character then as his real self.

Many many many reports of John Travolta paying off male escorts and male masseuse's for sexual assault...something tells me Gotti never went down that road. Travolta loves cock sandwiches according to testimony and lawsuits.

I thought the acting was good but was just a two star movie at best...
