Girolamo Asaro was an early member of the CDG Family who fled to the U.S. after he killed Giuseppe Costa, possibly using the alias Vincenzo Fudara. Italy requested extradition but the federal court refused, so he was allowed to stay in the United States.

And then of course, we have Jerome "Jerry" Asaro (born in 1958), the son of Vincent. Made in or around 1991.
There you have it, never printed before.

Magaddino talks about Girolamo Asaro, as he was something of a mentor to him. He taught him the butcher trade, but it also sounds like Asaro may have been influential in schooling young Magaddino in Cosa Nostra.

I had never heard of Jerome Asaro (father of Vincent) falling out of favor for a time, but Joseph Asaro was on bad terms with the Bonanno administration as well after behaving disrespectfully at the wake of Stefano Magaddino's older brother, where he openly criticized his Bonanno superiors. Magaddino reported this to "Ciccino" (probably Frank Garafola) who reported it to Joe Bonanno. Sounds like Joseph was also considered a full member of the Montreal decina once he moved there.

1.) Vincenzo Asaro Sr. (Captain) (1892-1970)

Born in CDG, arrived in NYC in September 1905. Destined for Nicolo Asaro on Elizabeth St in Little Italy.

On January 9, 1912 parents Girolamo (55y) and Rosalia (49y) killed in housefire at their residence in Boston.

Sister Brigid married the other Vito Bonventre (1891-1988). Another sister married a Giordano.

Spent about a year in USP Lewisburg for bootlegging conviction in the late 1930s.

Daughter Rosalie married Michael Zaffarano in November 1956.

Served as Capodecina under Joseph Bonanno, demoted for some reason, later under John Morale. Carried a grudge against Bonanno, Morale and their loyalists afterwards. For this reason one of Gaspar DiGregorio's supporters.

Had two sons known to be members: Jerome and Joseph. Both made by the 1950s.

Brother Giuseppe (1890-1963) sometimes listed as member, but no source known. Other brothers included Mariano (1886-1942) and Michele (1895-1984).

Son Joseph fled NY for Montreal where apprehended June 1966 following raid by Montreal PD. Vincenzo was also there along with Vic and Frank Cotroni.

Died January 19, 1970 in Queens. Wake held in East New York.

2.) Jerome Asaro (Soldier) (1913-1977)

Made in the 1950s, Soldier under Gaspar DiGregorio.

Jerome and another DiGregorio crew member shelved at some point circa late 1950s by Joseph Bonanno, along with another DiGregorio crew member. CI later claimed reason was disobeying orders re unspecified business partners. Reinstated after a two year period.

Member of Zaffarano's regime by 1973.

Died July 22, 1977.

3.) Joseph Asaro (Soldier) (1919-c.1973)

Also made in the 1950s.

Fled NY for Montreal around 1953. Worked for Cotroni.

Father Vincenzo told the FBI he hadn't seen his son in years and believed he was dead. Two months later Vincenzo's arrested with Joseph in Montreal.

After arrest remanded to NYS prison as parole violator. Dead by Fall 1973.

4.) Vincent Asaro (Capodecina) (1935-)

One of the main operators in Michael Zaffarano's porn business as of the early 1970s, along with Louis Attanasio and others.

Inducted into the Bonannos circa August 1977. Others made in the same ceremony included Peter Monteleone. Anthony Graziano is another possible inductee, but not confirmed.

By 1979 members of Zaffarano crew included: Asaro, Louis Attanasio, Joseph D'Amico, James Episcopia, Anthony Indelicato, Anthony Mirra, Dominick Napolitano and Anthony Rabito.

Most of the info on him post-1980 is already out there.

5.) Andrew Asaro (Soldier) (1927-1991)

Under the radar for the most part. Worked at the Paris Bar in Lower Manhattan.

Inducted circa May 1978, sponsored by Nicholas 'Nick the Battler' DiStefano. Described as not very streetwise, and reportedly brought in for some kind of legitimate or political connection. Others under DiStefano included Sereno Tartamella and Paul Sciacca.

That's about it. Not mentioned elsewhere. Lived on Long Island and died November 1991.

6.) Frank Asaro (Associate) (1926-1994)

Haven't seen this guy talked about, probably because he wasn't active long. Close to Mike Adamo and lived in Howard Beach. Family not from CDG but Mazara del Vallo. Moved to upstate NY around the time Mari/Adamo were killed, but eventually came back to New York where resided in Canarsie, Brooklyn. Whatever association he had with the Bonannos was done by then apparently as he applied to the NYPD in the 1970s.

I'm sure there's a lot more on these guys. They go way back in the Bonannos, or the CDG line at least. Feel free to post any other info/photos/whatever on the Asaros in here.
Thanks a lot JD for posting this interesting genealogy of the Asaro. In my latest book, I devote a segment about Vincent and and his son, Joseph Asaro. The latter was in hiding in Montréal under the protection of Vincenzo Cotroni. Asaro worked in a night club owned by Vincenzo. RCMP was tipped by US Immigration officials that Asaro was living in Montréal. Police officers went to Cotroni's home to arrest Asaro and detained him. When police arrived, Cotroni did not want officers to proceed to the arrest of Asaro in his home, because Cotroni's mistress was there and the arrest if it came to be known to medias will shock his wife, who was ill, Cotroni pleaded to police officers. He offered police $50 000 to have Asaro arrested elsewhere. Police arrested anyway Asaro who was later deported to US. As for Vincenzo Cotroni he was charged with attempt to bribe a police officer. At his trial a year later in 1967, he successfully and brillantly plead to the judge that he meant to provide a $50 000 bail, not a bribe, that he was talking about. The judge acquitted him giving him the benefice of doubt of the law.

Frank Asaro is probably not related to the others. CDG Asaro's came from Mazara del Vallo originally but in Mazara there are tens of families with the Asaro name.

This is great stuff JD, thanks. So Vincenzo Asaro had a brother named "Mariano?" I'm guessing there is relationship between this line of the family and the current "Mariano Asaro" in CDG cosca. JD: do you know the precise relationship by any chance?

Maybe I've posted this before, but Bartolomeo Asaro was an important political figure in CDG during 1860s. His son was Girolamo Asaro (don't think this is same one Rick mentioned). He was married to the Borruso family. There was a Giovanni Asaro identified as important figure during this time period also, but not sure how he was related to Bartolomeo.
