Joey Merlino's Rise to Power
Is there any books which detail Joey's rise to the top or is there anyone here who knows a lot about it. It seems strange to me that Stanfa made him and that he went straight from soldier to boss.

You can read the Last Gangster by George Anastasia. It covers the Merlino period.

The Goodfella Tapes also by George Anastasia covers how he and his crew took over the family (or what was left of it) as well.
Stanfa made him and Mike Ciancaglini to lower their guard so that he could kill them later. It obviously backfired on him.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

Was Joey in a crew under any captain when he got inducted?

I don't think so. He and Ciancaglini continued to do their own thing. Besides there really weren't any crews under stanfa by that time.

I don't believe there were enough people made on the street for the family to have any real structure left. That whole era of Stanfa vs Merlino was more like street gang shit. It was anything but LCN. Stanfa with the Boozo crew of freaks and Merlino's crew of Club Hopping attention seeking cokeheads. It was a freakshow down there.... lolGotti wrote:Thanks for the replies.Pogo The Clown wrote:The Goodfella Tapes also by George Anastasia covers how he and his crew took over the family (or what was left of it) as well.

Is it likely Joey and his guys would have been kicking up directly to Stanfa or did they have no boss?

They weren't kicking up to Stanfa. That's how the prombles started. They were doing their own thing and wouldn't fall into line with Stanfa.
