Re: Boston FBI Disbands OC Squad
If I understand correctly this squad was created to fight organized crime in general, not just the mafia
Re: Boston FBI Disbands OC Squad
Surprised there isn't other OC groups in Boston worth them keeping the squad to investigate

Re: Boston FBI Disbands OC Squad
HSI appears to have taken the lead into OC investigations in Buffalo, Rochester, and the rest of WNY. I wonder if this is because many of the OC groups have an international component to their organization and/or their criminal activities.

From my understanding, and again this comes second hand, I was told Albie, Dino Guilmette (extremely skeptic on this one), and Anthony Parrillo got straightened out recently all together. I believe it was before Eddie died. I've always been told that Albie refused membership for years. Dino is with Matty quite often. AP is really the only viable candidate here. Fresh off a bid and well respected around Prov. I saw Matty on Xmas Eve and he looks very brittle.
Thats my two cents. Providence is grasping at straws these days.....

Very true. And other OG groups exist and are far more dangerous than Cosa Nostra ever was. Simply put their last name doesn't end in a vowel.scagghiuni wrote: ↑Tue Dec 24, 2024 3:40 am If I understand correctly this squad was created to fight organized crime in general, not just the mafia

Cosa Nostra at its peak was very dangerous, even in BostonChaps wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2024 11:19 amVery true. And other OG groups exist and are far more dangerous than Cosa Nostra ever was. The kids today are soft . They are given everything they want and have no desire to be on the street . Boston has a few guys in there 40’s after that forget it .
I would assume Jersey is the same . Kids r going to school and get educations no need to hit the streets and that’s a good thing

It always surprised me that the remnants of Winter Hill didn't reorganise a bit post Bulger / Connolly and in light of the decimation of LCN in the 90s. A bit like NJ for Italian Americans, Boston retains a major Irish influence and ethnic population, with a fair bit of continuing immigration from this side of the Atlantic.
I suppose the answer must be that the kids are also getting their education and doing better things - but even to this day a fair few of the Irish American neighbourhoods in the Boston area are not particularly affluent and still quite working class, which I would have thought would be fertile breeding ground for OC.
Anyway, not really a question just a rambling thought from me!

I think drugs and gentrification played a big role in that. Even looking at crews in 90s were getting strung out. I think the last 25 years a large amount of guys have gotten into drugs and never were able to be in a place where they can actually operate organized. There are def guys in Southie and Charlestown still that have books, loans, and sell drugs but its on a smaller level. I know personally some guys who do some of these things and "report" to a former WHG guy. But it's small time.AnIrishGuy wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 1:05 am It always surprised me that the remnants of Winter Hill didn't reorganise a bit post Bulger / Connolly and in light of the decimation of LCN in the 90s. If nobody sees it, it didn't happen.

Says in the article they have 30 made guys now compared to hundreds in their prime. Hundreds? What size was Boston at its peak then?
