Calling D'Adamo an "underboss", is Scott implying that the Rizzutos are not only independent of the Bonannos, but have formed their own separate family? Or is he using the term "underboss" loosely/informally?
It seems like it'd be a big leap to claim that the Rizzutos have formed their own separate family. I mean, do we even know if guys like Stefano Sollecito and Lorenzo Rizzuto are made?

Rule of thumb: always takes Scott's ranks loosely (though Sollecito may very well be Rizzuto's second-in-command). And no, I don't think there's any specific evidence they are made. At least not in the Bonanno family. As I've said before, I don't think a single living made Bonanno member can be positively identified in the Montreal wing at this point. Which I'd argue would only make it easier for there to be two separate organizations at this point. Didn't happen over night but anyone following this can see the slow division over the last 25+ years.
Every single news source in Canada has identified them as Mafia members. The RCMP has identified them as leaders of the Mafia. So unless this is some new Italian Mafia they are all referencing then then it safe to assume them as being made. Its not some confusing classification. Bonanno or not.
Unless this is an attempt to now agree with the term IOC the Feds in the States have used many times and relate it to "remnants" of an original Mafia family

Ok thanks I had indeed forgotten this passage. But Scoppa does not speak of the initiation rite or that he was initiated, he says that according to him the concept of omerta has disappeared nowadays. And on chapter 4 he says that Rizzuto saw him [Scoppa] as a member of the "Family"
I think that the beginning of the end in the Bonanno-Montreal relationship occurred with the murder of George 'From Canada' Sciascia. Montreal is their own thing now. Being a Bonnano didn't help Sal the Ironworker.
Can't really say his Bonanno membership didnt help. Because of his Bonanno membership he was able to garner support from other Bonanno members in Montreal and many non-members. Desjardins, a non-member, only killed him after being put in a kill or be killed situation.
One thing that stood out that Scott says is that Canada is now the top dogs for Hells Angels. Canada is calling the shots now not California. Interesting
That’s the guy, Adriana. My Uncle Tony. The guy I’m going to hell for.

True enough. Let me rephrase. Being a former Bonnano boss didn't get him a pass from being whacked by a non member. And it didn't get the non-member or his fellow planners killed for whacking a made guy.
