Any info on Baldy Dom?

Post by InCamelot »

He was Chin's aide, led the Village crew until his death, supposedly carried out the Tony Bananas hit, supposedly was a target of Gotti's, and he was stressed about having to spend two holidays .

Anyone have anymore info on the guy? If anyone hasn't read HairyKnuckles post on Fat Dom Alongi go read it now. Fascinating stuff.

The details are sketchy but Canterino was caught up in a probe by the Justice Department´s Los Angeles Organized Crime Strike Force that lasted for years investigating Salvatore Pisello´s connections to MCA Records and Morris Levy, owner of the Strawberries record store chain. I don´t know exactly what Canterino´s role was but it appears he, Pisello and Corky Vastola extorted John LaMonte, a record wholesaler who fell behind in payments of a loan to Levy. In 1988, Canterino was convicted of conspiracy to commit extortion and sentenced to 12 years. However, Canterino only served a year of his sentence, released due to his failing health, I guess.

Canterino was also implicated with the Bobby Manna case. Two of the tapes played at the trial was from a tap on the phone belonging to Canterino back in 1985. One conversation was with one man identified only as Ralph (Ralph Gigante??) and the other was with Olympia Esposito, the common wife of Vincent Gigante. Ralph and Canterino referred many times to the "nine guys" probably a reference to the nine guys indicted in the Commission Case. They also talked about "the guy with the chemo" a probable reference to Neil Dellacroce, who died of cancer before the trial. If Canterino was in good standing with Chin, he probably lost all that when the tapes were revealed in 1989.

Canterino was made in the late 1970s, most probably into the Alongi/Gigante crew but he was a Brooklyn guy. At least he lived there in late 1970s/1980s. His address was listed at 181 Bay 41st street which is in the Gravesend section. It appears that he also had a home in McAfee, Sussex County, NJ. He was identified as a captain by CW Vincent "Fish" Cafaro in 1988. Conflicting stories on when exactly he died, but I believe in 1991.
There you have it, never printed before.
