Re: Project Otremens Recordings
Vincenzo Morena would certainly be one of the most important and interesting interviews, if he ever decided to talk publicly.
Re: Project Otremens Recordings
Not his decision to make as he’s in witness protection. In addition, if he wanted to risk the sizeable compensation (in excess of $1 million) he received from the Government of Canada, he’d have to sue the RCMP if he felt the agency had somehow chiselled him. His name can’t even be mentioned in Canada because he never testified at trial; therefore, the publication ban is one that specifically bans the publication of his name in this country. Retired police officers like Stephen Metelsky won’t even mention the name in private communications such as email messages and DMs.

Re: Project Otremens Recordings
The Colombos have have had a number of historic ties to the Buffalo Family:
- Carmine Persico did business with Buffalo member John Sacco when Persico was still a capodecina in the late 1960s.
- Colombo member Joe Gorgone was close to the Todaros an hung out at the Diplomat Hotel in Florida during the 1980s.
- Carmine Persico associated with the Utica decina going back to the 1960s.
- The Colombos inducted Utica-based member Dominic Bretti. Donato Nappi was also a Utica-based Colombo associate.
- Joe Colombo allegedly traveled to Buffalo to help mediate the factional dispute in 1969.
- On the Palma Boys tapes, Tony Salerno says Carmine Persico is tasked w/ mediating the Buffalo Family's 1980s factional dispute (Todaro vs. J.Pieri) for the Commission.
- Joe DiCarlo Jr.'s brother-in-law was powerful Colombo member Tony Bonasera and a 1967 FBI report identifies DiCarlo as a Colombo member at the time. Bonasera was reportedly planning to visit Buffalo and was expected to back the DiCarlo-Pieri faction.
- Joe Magliocco had telephone contact with Albany-based Buffalo member Sylvester Battaglia of the Utica decina.
- In 1966 the FBI surveilled Utica decina leaders Joe Falcone and Serafino Grio at the Upstate property of Joe Colombo.
- Joe Zito of Batavia NY was an associate "with" Buster Aloi circa late 1960s.
Most of these are historic but there was a relationship up into the Persico and Todaro era. Recent years have shown a great deal of networking still goes on with many of the remaining Families, especially in Florida, so it's not surprising Joe Todaro Jr. and the Buffalo Family still have some level of contact with the Colombos.

PROJECT WINDFALL
Windfall was a Part VI investigation into illegal sports betting and the distribution of illegal gambling machines. The project targeted the Musitano Organized Crime Family in the Hamilton and Niagara Falls area. At the conclusion of the investigation, officers were able to use information gathered off the lines to lay charges against several well- known TOC figures and several other associates.
All charged parties were convicted of bookmaking. The investigation also lead to 15 illegal gaming house warrants being executed. Forty more individuals were charged with various gambling offences in relation to the gaming houses. Investigators also gathered information that assisted Project "Expiate" investigators and was used to convict members of the family with two homicides related to the Papalias, prominent crime family members from the Hamilton area. Investigators believe the homicides were the result of a turf war related to the gambling trade.
Criminal Intelligence Service Canada (CISC) presented the Ontario Illegal Gaming Enforcement Unit a Mark of Excellence award in recognition of the unit's dedication and leadership in combating organized crime in relation to project "Expiate" at their annual conference in Ottawa in the fall of 1999.

The first Project Scopa investigation determined that John Papalia was paying tribute, derived from illicit gambling profits, to Vito Rizzuto — was tribute paid by Ontario-based Buffalo Family members even after Papalia’s murder in 1997? in 1996 while Project Windfall was going on? before 1996?

Were it not for a Gangster BB poster who recently posted over there about Paris Christoforou and numerous others who were targeted in a 2-year investigation of illegal bookmaking and illegal gaming, I never would have known about the RCMP press release issued April 5. Christoforou is not presently in Canada.antimafia wrote: ↑Tue Dec 06, 2022 3:16 pm[snip]
We already know that the Figliomenis were involved in Platinum from the start, whose setup I date to 2003. Peter Scarcella and a brother of his were also involved in Platinum. So was former Hells Paris Christoforou, who was close to Peretz — you’ll recall that Christoforou punched out fellow inmate Peter Scarcella when the two saw themselves go to prison in relation to the 2004 California Sandwiches shooting fiasco; that Christoforou and Scarcella survived a murder attempt in the west end of Toronto a number of years after they got out.

Good articles, but nothing really new. Also, the author seems to be confused about how the mafia is structured. In one sentence he’s calling Papalia a Hamilton mob boss and Carmen Barillaro an underboss. I think they were members in the Buffalo family, right?antimafia wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2024 5:26 pmMurder of a Mob boss: 'We’re going to move mountains together'antimafia wrote: ↑Sat Dec 03, 2022 11:22 pm More about Project Windfall:

Then, he describes the Musitanos, Luppinos-Violis, and Papalia groups as three separate crime familes. If they’re separate crimes families, why would Papalia turn over his gambling rackets to the Musitanos? Clearly they’re separate blood families, and the full picture of everyone’s LCN alliance isn’t clear.
No mention that Dom Violi is the underboss of the Buffalo family, and Joey is made too (either Buffalo or Bonanno), instead just pretending that they’re members of a non-existent “Violi-Luppino family”.Giuseppe “Joey” and Domenico “Dom,” are members of what is viewed as Hamilton’s current and only traditional organized crime group left in Hamilton — aptly referred to as the Violi-Luppino crime family
