will legal sports betting put a dent in illegal gambling ?

Not that much, when you gamble legally, you give the money upfront for your bet, when you do it illegally, you do it basically on the promise that either you or the bookie will pay out in the end. A lot of people don't have money upfront, so they're gonna need to do it illegally.

For new customers yes. For current customers that have been betting with a bookie I'd say not really.

Also have to pay taxes on legal gambling going through a bookie tax free

I agree. I think legalized gambling has brought in a lot of new customers. This probably only helps unregulated bookies though, because when these people get hooked and see all of the regulations and taxes, they will run to them.
