Re: The lukes strongest period
One thing I will say regarding the 'Lukes' thing, is John Pennisi has said he heard guys on the street refer to the Lucchese family by that nickname, as well as making an L with their thumb and forefinger. So it does seem to at least be in use with actual wiseguys.
He also said he heard the Gambinos refered to as the Gams or the Gambis.

Should be a punishable offense. First time, a guy gets taxed. Second time, he gets shelved. They don’t get told a third time.

There was a guy on the boards years ago who used to call the Bonannos the "nannos". That's like baby talk or some shit.

I think I'm guilty of refering to the DeCavalcante family as the DeCavs from time to time so maybe I shouldn't throw stones from my glass house.

That's not bad, it's just an abbreviation for an unwieldy name. It's not "cute" like calling them something like "the Cavvies" or whatever (I just made that up) would be.johnny_scootch wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 4:01 pm I think I'm guilty of refering to the DeCavalcante family as the DeCavs from time to time so maybe I shouldn't throw stones from my glass house.
my nana told me to always be home in time for din-din because there are nannos in the neighborhood after dark and they are bad people

Wasnt it Pennisi who said that Big John wanted to shelve a member of that crew because he kept calling Starbuck's Coffee "Starbys" ??

Italians don’t like their surnames being shortened and changed into some Jew sounding nickname, I promise you that.
