Why Joe Bonanno didn't create a mob family in Arizona?

Post by furiofromnaples »

After Joe Bonanno must leave NY for the Arizona in 1968 why he didn't try to create a new mob family back in Arizona?
The Outfit had interests in Arizona but Bonanno with his prestige and connections with Sicialian Mafia can easly create a small but profitable family especially with large border with Mexico and the proximity to Nevada and California.

He did try to create a Family there, it just wasn't recognized by the Commission. He reached out to Families in other cities and argued that because the Commission was illegitimate he didn't need their recognition to form a Family and therefore some of the small Families he was in contact with should recognize him but it was to no avail.

I have the theory that Bonanno's ultimate plan was have Carmine Galante (if he wasn't imprisoned) as "Father" over the New York Family, get a transfer for Bill Bonanno to one of the California Families (probably L.A) and take over that Family, all while maintaining influence from Tuscon. It obviously didn't play out that way.

Sounds like there’s a series based on this very incident coming to Prime. I know Ewan McGregors attached, I’d think as the owner of the dealership. I wanna see who gets cast as Bonanno.

It’s cool how much mob related content has been appearing in recent years but goddamn so much of it is mid. Tulsa King, Bad Blood, Australian Gangster, Last King of the X, The Offer. They were all sort of “meh”except for The Offer.
