One of the redacted names is former consigliere / acting boss Joe Yacovelli who was one of the leaders in the attempted coup.

Chicago's attendance is similar to Giancana attending the Philly Commission meeting in the late 50s where they mediated the Pollina / Bruno dispute.

I assume you meant him being at the Spilotro murders? We don't know when Marino was made, but out of of Infelise's guys (DeLaurentis -- made in '89, Bellavia, Salerno) he is the one I could see being made in the 70s.

Based on his description in his testimony, the 1983 ceremony at which Nick Calabrese was made was most likely held at what was then a Sicilian restaurant located across the street from Mt Carmel Cemetery in West Suburban Hillside. Mt Carmel is where Capone and many other figures connected to the Chicago mafia are buried.I don’t know that the location was chosen specifically because of Mt Carmel, though that certainly contributed to the overall grim and heavy vibe of the event in Nick’s testimony. More likely that it was chosen due to the restaurant being run by Sicilian immigrants who were trusted (the famous 1976 “Last Supper” meeting of Chicago’s leadership was likely held at another Sicilian-owned restaurant for the same reason).

He didn’t specify the exact restaurant in his testimony; unclear if he didn’t recall the name or not, but he wasn’t queried on the stand about it. Possible that he didn’t recall, as the restaurant was closed a couple of years later and the building subsequently demolished and replaced with a gas station. Who knows if he was familiar with the restaurant apart from the ceremony.

The location to me is doubly evocative, given the storied history of Mt Carmel and the ownership being from Cìnisi and Ciminna, two towns that had an important place in the history of the mafia in Chicago.

Definitely need that post-Aiuppa part 2 podcast guys... the 1990s is obviously fascinating but any discussion even if its got elements of educated speculation on the 2000s would be extremely interesting.
