Didn't they say Escobar was the richest man in the world or some shit at one point?
Articles would allege Escobar was worth $30 billion (in late 1980s money, mind you) or that he could pay off the Colombian national debt. Really absurd.
Absurd? Your on the internet thinking you know what goes on with drug lords . Real kingpins..

Isn’t it absord he built his own prison with his own guards ?

Isn’t it absurd that he blew up planes out the sky?

Isn’t it absurd that he FACTUALLY offered to pay off the national debt in order to pursue politics and have robin hood type image?

Do you not know he built sustainable communities and livable type favelas for free in colombia ..

Why do you think he was sooo loved by the people until propaganda and he went left offf the deepend.
Who are you?

No doubt someone who has been on this forum before. ;)

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

But see... this the thing... by this time, as the Cicale files show, I don't think the Rizzutos had major access to coke. They had to go through brokers and ally with Colluccio people to keep it going. If they had it, why didn't they send it to Basciano and Indelicato?

Insignificant clan bosses walk in armored cars and at least one escort car and the montreal mob boss drives around alone and without an escort?
This is the thing that I don't understand. Leonardo Rizzuto should be more careful given that as the last of Rizzuto family will be a target for his whole life.

In actuality the power of the Rizzuto clan has been understated...

"2018 Italian Chamber of Deputies report reports that the governments of Quebec and Canada seem to have learned nothing from the Charbonneau Commission and do not “take seriously” the power of the Montreal mafia and the Rizzuto clan."

and this statement made by the Italian government when the clan had suffered great defeats in the same decade.

Same here. I think this definitely has more to do with Desjardin's "faction" rather than Sollecito turning on Rizzuto. The Sollecito family seems to be pretty intertwined with the Rizzutos (at least from what I've seen) so I don't think he would turn that quickly on him.

Interesting the Raynald is released.
He would have to be the prime suspect. Pathological hatred of the Rizzuto clan and as stone cold gangster as it gets. He's a lifer. I think the obvious answer is likely the correct one.

CabriniGreen wrote: Fri Mar 17, 2023 9:43 pmIt was never really about the Montreal metro area though... right? The real power was in controlling the route into the US, specifically New York...
Not if you're talking Vito Rizzuto's era. Their drug operations seem to have been primarily for the Montreal market, and to a lesser degree, elsewhere in Canada. At least with cocaine. Marijuana might have been different.

I suspect so. If someone thinks Escobar had $30 billion in the 1980s, or any decade, that's a level of ignorance that can't be helped.

Just by way of comparison, a much more realistic figure was when the Rodriguez Orejuela brothers from the Cali cartel were prosecuted. They were estimated to be worth approximately $2 billion. And they were as least as rich as Escobar.

Speaking of jokes you know that Desjardins didn't like the track in the rec area one time he was in jail so he had some company he controlled come in and give it a new coat of asphalt, right?

I read a few books on Canada & just finished the Sixth family last month. Its like Disney World just so many characters in different places in Canada. Fair or foul ball some branch is in the batter box with a few on deck.
