I see Antillar brings up the possibility of a former agent. Maybe, seems odd a retired agent would take this as a souvenir.
I don't think the feds leaked it, I think someone (ex-law enforcement, John Binder) gave it to Goudie once Inendino died.
How would binder have it and not have given it up a long time ago?

This was back when they still had federal parole, though. The casino skim guys were sentenced to 28 years in prison and served only 10.
Very true. Thanks for reminding me.

Heard the FBI was out in full force at that wake. They had a van parked across the street. A lot of interesting people supposedly went.
I jokingly said to someone maybe I should pay my respects and see who turns up.

This is all an assumption on my part, but Binder may have been asked not to share it until Inendino died... if it even came from Binder. It could also have come from retired Chicago LE or FBI agent. Similar to how Scott D got a copy of that booklet with the list of members. Maybe they didn't feel right sharing it while he was alive? I don't know.

Just an odd thing for an agent to take as a keepsake, but it’s probably likely.

I don't know if it was necessarily a "keepsake," I figured it was just one of a bunch of copies of stuff this person probably had from ages ago. He saw Inendino died and leaked it to Goudie. Again, all just assumptions on my part.

Two things that don't add up to me:

How would a guy guy like John Binder know about Inendino and not the Outfit? These guys are very sophisticated even in 2023 - they were very close to getting Nick Calabrese through their LE contacts 10 years ago and I assume they have many more on their payroll. I just am surprised this would not be out there - that a historian would know the acting street boss was a former informant and not the actual mob given how many sources they have.

It's also likely Inendino saw murders up close and participated. I'm surprised he would risk sticking with the Outfit after being an informant. That is quite a bit of time to keep that secret about being a former informant - 40+ years - I can imagine that would be a lot of stress wondering if anyone knows or if anyone will find out. Also quite a bit of time being in prison and probably even more worried.

It’s a classified document and who ever had it and leaked it can get in trouble for it. Either way, I’m more interested in knowing if he fed information after he got out of jail in 1988. That’s a lot of leverage to hold against someone. The Feds could have easily threatened him with it. That being said, he obviously didn’t give up much during the two time periods that were mentioned bc there are no examples of who was arrested or even investigations that occurred bc of the info he gave. He could have easily played the Feds and I’m not saying this bc I’m a fan of him.

It was planned on being released on the day of the wake to tarnish his image. That’s a fact. They could have easily held it for another week. It wasn’t exactly a time sensitive document lol

It’s happened before. People have skeletons in their closet. It was recently revealed that Joe Morgan the boss of bosses of the Mexican mafia testified against someone in open court in the 1940s. He would have been killed if la eme knew this and he definitely would never have been made a member. Nobody really knew. So it’s definitely possible

Again, Binder giving it to Goude is only conjecture. Personally, I'd lean more towards former LE.

He apparently gave up some info on truck hijackings and not necessarily any Outfit activity. We don't know the extent of the information provided but there is no evidence that he provided any past 1980 (the date of the file in question). Maybe he gave up some rival hijacking crews that weren't with the Outfit? I'm not sure we will ever get a satisfactory answer.

I'm sure Goudie received it in confidentiality. My two cents, but the FBI probably has more things to worry about that a 40 year-old document getting released. The FBI also shared a lot of intel with local law enforcement, especially when they were working together on task forces in the 90s. Considering the traditional reputation of Chicago and Cook County LE, holding onto a document 30-40 years and then giving it to the media is small potatoes.

No I agree but it is still illegal and a felony. FBI guys seem to make their own rules and definitely carry themselves like they are above the law.

Something else to consider is that this could have been legally released to private parties in the past (say, for court purposes) and they just overlooked the information about him being an informant. It's interesting that this file included this information as they usually tried to keep them separate from the cooperator's main file.

Because he's dead now? Isn't that what happened when Lefty Rosenthal died?
