You know, a totally logical explanation.
You're not gonna believe this, he killed 16 alligators. Guy was a radiator installer.

I always thought the whole "mafia disc jockey" thing was weird as hell. Requiescat in pace.
His father was a Jewish gangster Louis Blavat who associated with the mob so I assume that's how he got in with these guys originally.
Good info, didn’t know that. He “associated” with them, but was he an “associate”? I’ve never quite understood the relationship of other OC groups in Philly to the mob. There were Jewish mobsters, a Greek “mob”, a Polish “mob”. I’ve heard that they all had close connections to LCN, but they don’t seem (based on what little I know) to have been under LCN in the way that their ethnic counterparts were in Chicago. My impression is that they had personal connections and were friendly with mob guys, but maintained some level of autonomy. I’ve wondered exactly what relationships these other guys really had with LCN and if they answered to them at all.
Yeah I'm not sure if they were "on record" officially but they did business with the mafia. Angelo Bruno was particularly close to the Jewish element going back to when he was an associate. As boss he also helped mediate an issue between some Jewish underworld guys and the Colombo Family over a linen business. I'd guess some of them were "with" the Family if issues like that came up but you're right they seem to have been semi-autonomous.

Before he became boss Bruno was very much one of those "syndicate" type guys heavily involved in Florida, foreign casinos, and non-Italian racketeers. There's a report from the 1950s that says he was loaning out significant money to the Jewish gangsters in Philly. Yet he was also a Sicilian traditionalist with blood relatives in the Sicilian mafia.

Thanks B. I think.

Here's a fun interview with Frank Friel off to the side giving him the evil eye.

The origin of "Cabert" is the best.

He was a great pitcher growing up and threw a lot of strikes so because his name was Robert they called him "K-Bert".

Ahh that dude, lol. Yeah, that’s up there.

Reminds me of this old crackhead in my neighborhood named “Radio”. He used to roll around with a shopping cart full of shit to sell when I was a kid. And we used to always ask him “Yo, Radio, but why they call you Radio??”. And he’d get agitated and yell “They call me Radio because every muthafucka out here know me!! Everybody know I’m Radio!!”. Every time lol. Some people are clearly operating on a higher level than us mortals.

Cabert is the guy Joe Pesci got that "Funny how? Funny like a clown?". He actually put the young Joe Pesci through that routine in real life, poor guy.

So K for strucK out + Robert = Cabert. Neato. I like how the C turns into a K.

Never heard of this movie. What’s hilarious is that the “Radio” from my neighborhood was called Radio years before this movie came out in 2003. Maybe they ripped him off! Though our radio was a crackhead and not a mentally disabled youth.
