I read an interesting post. Comes from a guy who worked on John Gotti’s final trial and on Tommy Gambino’s trial

“I’ve stated many times here that the Mother Church of the mob was Sicily and the 5 families were completely subservient to Sicilian commands.

Sicily ran the heroin from Asian into the port of NY the families did the wholesale distribution. That racket was a hundred years old before Pappa Bush and His bitch Rudy G. Cleared the traffic for the big guys at the CIA.

Also , Sicily wanted Paulie out and nobody would have taken him out without a direct order and anything one involved with that (Gravano was NOT a part of it) was abasically a hit man for hire. Sicily wanted him out and was going to get taken out by someone.

People in this sub make a bad g deal about John taking out a boss and what a piece of shit he was for doing that and then turn around and praise Carlos Gambino as the GOAT.That makes no sense and they never see the problem in their logic and thinking.

Poor Albert A. He gets no honor in death like Big Paul. Anyway, people in this sub seem very unaware of just how much the 5 families were in the thrall of the Sicilian Mother Church and just how much of a “Church” the whole thing was.

When You add that framing, the stories all shift a bit and the wish I could somehow help with that and give people a better understanding of the way things really worked.”

Who was it that said this? I absolutely agree with the part that Sicily ran it, the NY families handled distro. Especially the Bonannos, they were like, the prime distributors...

I'm not sure about the completely subservient thing... Sicily DID acquiesce when NY asked them to spare the "escapees".... and they, still today I think, need the Five families infrastructure to really do anything big here....

Maybe subservient in the sense of the international heroin trade, but not in the setup overall. American LCN, while always retaining contacts and relationships with Italian OC, was a separate and independent group. There is a lot of literature to back this up. In fact, a lot of the research indicates that the major rise in Italian OC related violence in Italy in the 80's and 90's (Riina and the like), was them trying to get on par with their American counter-parts in terms of earning power and influence. Prior to the 80's, Italian OC functioned in a very rural and traditional sense. Things like union racketeering, large scale drug dealing, corporate level corruption, trans-national co-operation with other criminal gropus, etc, were all things the American LCN did on a much larger scale early on.

Nowadays....the Italians have much more internationanl scope and power. It's just flipped.

Felices info on the Gambinos thread had the Sicilians soliciting Paul and vice versa. Paul courting the Sicilians for mafia politics, while the Sicilians wanted the go-ahead to expand operations....
