sal catalano
i always get him confused with Baldo Amato.
Been reading about these Siiclian mobsters and all the H they moved.
The detective that pieced it all together is amazing in his intelligence and work ethic. This guy really pieced it together with minimal help from rats.

I find Last Days of the Sicilians to be the best read on the Pizza Connection and Sal Catalano, Baldo, Bonventre and the rest. The actual book The Pizza Connection is good but is very legalistic. When I read one I normally have the other next to it for reference.

The bakery he operated is still open on Metropolitan and still does crazy business (it's really good, one of my favorites) but it's open under a different name. Anyone know if the people who run it are family members of his?

Joe's Bakery. I've never been in but it does look good. I'm not sure, but it seems like the owners may be named Spinello. If that's the case, I wouldn't guess that they would be related to Catalano, as that's not a name I've ever seen in Ciminna.newera_212 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 10:06 am The bakery he operated is still open on Metropolitan and still does crazy business (it's really good, one of my favorites) but it's open under a different name. Re: sal catalano
Offhand I don’t recall their heights. It may be less that Baldo (and Cesare) were particularly tall but rather that Catalano and Ganci were short.Shellackhead wrote: ↑Sat Dec 03, 2022 7:48 amGreat pic. amato is very tall wow. I thought he was short

Last Days of the Sicilians, or Pizza Connection? I thought Last Days was fine, not great but good, but Pizza Connection is hard to get through. I work at a university and before I owned it I had checked it out from our university library a couple times but it's kept at the Law School library.Browniety86 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 5:30 pmI tried to get into that book once and just couldnt...Adam wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 8:40 am I find Last Days of the Sicilians to be the best read on the Pizza Connection and Sal Catalano, Baldo, Bonventre and the rest. Re: sal catalano
Bonventre was always rumored to be 6-7 but that was most likely an urban myth. Believe I saw a mugshot where he is listed as 5-9 or so. Those other guys in the pic were definitely very short.
