Visiting Lucchese 1963

Re: Visiting Lucchese 1963
He was arrested a bunch of times in Newark proper between 1911 and 1917, then was arrested in Lawrence MA a couple times in 1917, followed by Elizabeth a few times into the early 1920s then another arrest in Boston proper. Might have been living on the Lower East Side for a time too. Then he bounced between Pittsburgh and Iselin between the late 1920s and early 1930s.
Hard to gauge him based on geography alone and there isn't much indication he was a DeCavalcante though he lived closer to Elizabeth and was active there after Newark. At the time he first became active in Elizabeth the DeCavalcantes might have had more going on in NYC than Elizabeth too so again hard to guess. We know Joe Stassi was in Elizabeth but not with the DeCavalcante long after that became the Family HQ, so they did have some outside members there.

Re: Visiting Lucchese 1963
Eye balling it, he lived closest to the DeCavalcante family guys who were largely in Elizabeth & Linden but he wasn’t exactly in their neighborhood. He was a good 20-minute drive away from their area.
I wouldn’t rule him out based of where he lived, I’d suggest keeping him as a suspected member

Do you have the source for these arrests? I’d be super curious to see who he was with. I only found one in 1949 where he was selling stolen arms to the Costa Rican govt. and he was with random non-Italians
Stassi may have been the exception to the rule, he seemed to have a special relationship with that group. DeCarlo said that the city was “fenced off”. Plus, as you mentioned in the Gambino thread, they were paying his wife along with the widows of former bosses.

Here's a possible member: Peter Martella
- He's listed as a Lucchese member in this document (https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.htm ... lPageId=33)
- He was again listed as a Lucchese member in this 1968 document (https://www.maryferrell.org/showDoc.htm ... elPageId=3)
- On October 14 1967, he was killed along with Pasquale and Nicholas Collucci by Tino Fiumara at the 309 Club. (https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/USC ... 2532-1.pdf) Some sources suggest that this was done at the behest of Philadelphia member Dominick "Louie" Luciano.
- His last name was sometimes spelled as Mantella / Mantello

I may be way off but here's a Gaspare Mangiaracina in the 1910 censusB. wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 3:19 pm Anyone seen anything about Gaspare Mangiaracina?
He's on one Lucchese member list from the 1960s, though it's from a set of lists that have a few errors.
Newark underboss Sam Monaco's business partner was a "C.Mangiaracina" which could have been Newark resident Calogero Mangiaracina from Camporeale, but no way to confirm. Wondering if it could have been Gaspare Mangiaracina given the Vita/Trapani guys close to Monaco ended up w/ the Luccheses.
He also used the name C.Mangiaracina in the 1905 census
(https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MKSR-S9N)
He lived in Brooklyn but it's still possible that this was the "C.Mangiaracina" who was Sam Monaco's partner.
------------
Interestingly, he had a son named Benjamin; a Benjamin Mangiaracina (43 Honiss St, Belleville) brought Dominic "The Ape" Pacelli to the hospital after he was shot.
I think that this was just a coincidence and that the whole Pacelli situation wasn't related to the Mafia but I wanted to note it anyways.

Onofrio Milazzo entered the US illegally on February 24, 1968JoelTurner wrote: ↑Fri Nov 25, 2022 2:46 pmI haven’t seen anything indicating that he was a Lucchese member (or even in the US) in 1963. I think he came over from Italy later in the ‘60s.

Re: Visiting Lucchese 1963
There was an informant who believed Milazzo was a Bonanno member as he was close to fellow Sicilian transfer Nino Busciglio and Angelo Salvo but I believe he was a Lucchese member. He represented Lucchese associates Anthony Accetturo and his cousin Jimmy Sinatra in a sitdown with Funzi Tieri and Patty Macchiarole. He was also from the same part of Trapani province as many of the Lucchese Jersey crew. Side note, but interestingly Tieri translated everything into Italian during the sitdown so he'd understand.
He was in the US for such a short time and is so obscure he's unlikely to show up on confirmed member lists but he was shown a great deal of respect when he was in NJ.

Re: Visiting Lucchese 1963
He would have known most of the other Zips in the area; he operated a Piancone Pizza (808 Main St, Toms River, NJ) and they played a role in the infamous Pizza Connection.
It’s interesting that he joined up with the Lucchese family, they didn’t have a lot of other Zips. The Newark Colombo crew had a lot of guys from Gibellina, same place as the Craparotta family, so I don’t know if being from the same part of Trapani province was the reason he landed up with this crew. His cousin Jimmy Sinatra had been a Gambino bookie in the ‘50s too.

This was Joe Sica. No idea what crew he would have been with.
JOSEPH SICA

DOB: Aug 20 1911
POB: Newark, NJ
F: Gerardo Sica (Caposele, Avellino, Campania)
M: Filomena “Anna” Sasso (Greci, Avellino, Campania)
W: Goldia Reinert

FBI #: 343378
LAPD #: 32483M12
Death: Nov 21 1992
Sica was supposedly related to Willie Moretti, but I don’t think that’s true.
He was close to Mickey Cohen; I don’t think that he was ever a member of the LA family. His brothers were not made.

Prior Addresses: 1202 5th Ave, Pittsburgh, PA; 62 Edison St, Buffalo, NY; 29 Catherine St, NYC, NY
Death: Mar 6 1975
—————
At his WW1 draft, he was living with his family in Manhattan
In Jan 1920, he was living in Buffalo when his brother Salvatore was killed in Cleveland alongside a Frank Ulizzi, also from Buffalo. Born in 1879, he was from Palermo and was described as a Black Hand leader.
In Aug 1924, he fathered a son Charles with Margaret Quigley (unclear if they were married) in NYC. In the 1930 census, Charles was living as a “boarder” with another family, his mother listed as unknown.
At his 1928 Cleveland meeting arrest, he was living in Iselin, NJ. In his 1932 John Bazzano murder arrest, he was in Pittsburgh, PA. By 1940, he was back in Iselin.
Re: Visiting Lucchese 1963
I figured his heritage in Cerda on the eastern side of Palermo province provided ties to Western PA but if his mother was from Trabia that makes even more sense since there were so many of them there.
