Second City Mafia Figure “Big Mickey” Marcello Going Back To The Pen For A Quick Minute Because He Stole From Uncle Sam
Scott Burnstein
November 23, 2022 — Chicago mob lieutenant Michael (Big Mickey) Marcello was sentenced in U.S. District Court this week to four months in federal prison for stealing tens of thousands of dollars of social security payments.
Marcello, 71, was arrested backed in 2019 for ripping off the government for $45,000 in social security benefits. His older brother, James (Jimmy the Man) Marcello, was the Chicago mob’s acting boss in the early 2000s before they both went down in the historic Operation Family Secrets case in April 2005.
Big Mickey Marcello did six years in the can courtesy of the Family Secrets case that solved 18 previously uncracked Outfit slayings dating back to the 1970s. Last winter, he admitted to pocketing more than $20,000 in a scam to defraud Uncle Sam as part of a plea deal to avoid major time behind bars again. U.S. District Court Judge Jorge Alonso ordered Marcello to report to BOP by January 23 of next year.
The Marcellos came up in Chicago mafia’s Cicero crew, members of the crew’s Melrose Park faction. The younger, lesser-ranking and more rotund Big Mickey Marcello once drove a delivery truck for the Chicago Sun-Times. He has long worked as his big brother’s conduit from his prison cell to the street, according to the FBI.
“Jimmy the Man” aka “Little Jimmy” Marcello is doing life in federal prison for his role in the famous Spilotro brothers hit, which occurred in June 1986 and was depicted in the film Casino. He did 10 years in prison in the 1990s for racketeering. Marcello drove the Outfit’s renegade Las Vegas crew chief, Tony (The Ant) Spilotro and his younger brother Michael, to their murders inside the basement of a residence located in Bensenville, a neighborhood on the Windy City’s Southside, on the late afternoon of June 14, 1986.
Tony the Ant had drawn the ire of his mob superiors in Chicago for his insubordinate behavior and reckless rampage through the Vegas underworld the prior decade and a half. Jimmy Marcello, 77, scooped the Spilotro brothers in his car from a motel parking lot and chauffeured them to their respective slaughters in Bensenville, where they were gruesomely beaten, stomped and strangled to death.

Bensenville is a neighborhood on the south side??? Bensenville is a town on the northwest side

First he's called a "lieutenant" and then he's called "lesser-ranking."

I believe that was in reference to his ranking relative to his brother, who was a boss.
There are two Marcello brothers, one of whom is lower-ranked in the Outfit hierarchy than the other.

If that's the case, the article was worded poorly. I took it as Mickey was referred to as both.

That's how I took it too. First sentence calls Mickey a lieutenant.cavita wrote: ↑Thu Nov 24, 2022 10:27 amIf that's the case, the article was worded poorly. I took it as Mickey was referred to as both.

Scott is my guy and I have the utmost respect for his work, but I’d be the first to break his balls over the Bensenville thing lol. It’s like reading an article about NY that refers to Mt Vernon as a neighborhood in Brooklyn.

Scott, I can only hope that one day you read an article stating that Grosse Point is a neighborhood on the Westside of the D, just so you can know the pain and offense that you’ve caused.
