Method of Making: Philadelphia
Moderator: Capos
Method of Making: Philadelphia
The purpose of this is to look at the likely reason that a member of the Philadelphia crime family was ultimately Made.
Using the criteria allegedly set forth by George Borgesi to Lou Monacello based on Lou Monacello's testimony in the early 2010's, those criteria are -
1- participating in the murder (also possibly the attempted murder) of a person on behalf of LCN
2- Making a large (but undefined) amount of money for LCN
3- Doing time ("standing up") on behalf of LCN
Possible 4th- nepotism with a lower barrier to entry using either criteria 2 or 3
Possible 5th - active mob war, opening the books for muscle
Please let me know where you think I'm wrong, right, or have additional insights.
I'm filling in ones where I'm fairly certain I'm right

Re: Method of Making: Philadelphia
Johnny Chang isn’t just an earner….
Re: Method of Making: Philadelphia
I believe that he was recorded saying it was an honor to avenge his brother's murder, or something similar.
Re: Method of Making: Philadelphia
I think Vetere would have been involved in the Gino Marconi hit that the Boston faction was suspected of committing as a show of loyalty to Merlino. I think that he was shot coming out his front door or something like that.

- Rocco Marinucci
- Harry Riccobene (attempted murder)

Notes
- Mazzone, Narducci, and Joseph Grande lead the pack in terms of pre-induction work with four each
- Important to note this is just what we have confirmed (i.e., it’s very likely that the likes of Angelina, Borgesi, Lancellotti, and Mazzone were involved in more of the hits and attempted hits in the early 1990s)
- Joseph Servidio claimed to have made his bones at a young age
- Domenic Grande was scheduled to be inducted shortly before Ligambi was arrested in 2011, so was likely already a member when he participated in the Gino DiPietro murder
- On that note, many of the above members (and some not listed above) participated in more murders and attempts after they were straightened out

Great list. I believe Nicky Milano also took part in the D'Alfonso hit before he was made.

I'm pretty sure that quote came from Natale. If Chang was caught on tape boasting about a murder he probably wouldn't be on the streets of Philly today. He was recorded by Previte but didn't cop to any murders during that conversation.
Re: Method of Making: Philadelphia
Scott B just released an episode of his original gangsters talking about the Philly family. He covers a lot of this information and did an incredible job. Great work.

Re: Method of Making: Philadelphia
I believe Johnny Chang was indicted for that murder and Natale did testify to that affect. The problem was that Joey and the rest of that group kept Ralph in the dark about most of the details and their defense attorneys were able to punch enough holes in his testimony to get them off on the charges.Hired_Goonz wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 4:19 amI'm pretty sure that quote came from Natale.
