Louis Monacello testimony notes (Ligambi trial)

Post by chin_gigante »

Cross-posting from the documents Beatty shared in the FBI section. In a bit of a rush today so these are some quick notes from a first pass and aren't as in-depth as the Caprio notes:

- Borgesi proposed Monacello twice
- The first time was just after Natale flipped, and Monacello turned it down because he thought Borgesi was going to be indicted
- The second time was during a prison visit in 2004
- Borgesi said when he got out he wanted to make his brother Anthony, Monacello, and Nicholas Cimino
- Monacello was surprised because he thought you had to participate in a murder to become a member and Cimino was not a violent person at all
- Borgesi told him you could get straightened out for being a good earner or doing jail time
- During a 2004 prison visit, Borgesi told Monacello that Anthony Nicodemo and Anthony Staino had been made
- Monacello seems to say Michael Lancellotti was already a captain by the late 1990s
- Nicodemo and Albert Lancellotti were Lancellotti associates
- Martin Angelina was a captain
- Seems to imply that Damion Canalichio was under Angelina

Identifies the following as members or associates in Borgesi's crew at one time:

- Joseph Curro (made)
- Anthony Accardo
- Anthony Borgesi
- Carl Bradley
- Mario Camerota
- Nicholas Cimino
- Mike Condalessa (Mikey Shrimp)
- Carmen Della Pollo
- Frank DiGiacomo
- William DiPenna
- Frank Gallo
- Frank Lebano
- Johnny Lucas
- Angelo Lutz
- Louis Monacello
- Larry Petta
- Billy Piazza (Buckethead, later chased)
- David Salvo
- Michael Salvo (Twitchy)
- Stephen Sharkey (later with Angelina)
- Anthony Staino (later made a captain)
- Roger Vella

==

On another note, following the Casasanto murder investigators had nicknamed a suspect Twitch. I assumed at first it was probably Michael Virgilio because of how he was shaking at the Merlino trial, but I suppose now it could be Michael Salvo too.

Quick question. I'm confused by something. Monacello was surprised Cimino could be a member because he thought you had to be involved in a murder to be nominated/made? What murder was Monacello involved in?

He wasn't involved in any. Part of the reason why he didn't want to get made was because he didn't want to participate in murders. It wasn't until Borgesi told him that he found out you could get made for being an earner or doing jail time.

Thanks for all this Chin.

Be interested to know his take on why it took so long for some of the brothers to be made like Borgesi and Mazzone. Since Merlino has been official boss the Family doesn't mind making guys wait. Monacello made it sound like someone really has to prove themselves to be made.

Also curious what he knew about Boston when he was on the street.

Ligambi was furious at the time about being profiled and “interviewed” in a Philadelphia Magazine, Jerry Blavat was the one who brokered the meeting between the Reporter from the magazine and Ligambi.

That was Ligambi’s major beef with Jerry Blavat at the time.

Things have smoothed over since, I saw Ligambi’s Daughter and Grandchildren at Memories just last summer MDW. The guys in the Philly crew are also back to spending time in the summer at Memories, including Skinny Joey. That beef between Ligambi and Blavat was short and intense (supposedly Ligambi wanted to kill Blavat over it) but is well over and things are smooth now from what I see and hear at the Shore….

I think Borgesi being out and free now also has something to do with Rat Finger Lou going away and being quiet, Borgesi is the real deal.
