Re: Visiting the West Side 1963
Thanks for getting this started. You're like a friggin' machine with these, lol.
Actually following up on genealogies for all of these guys will be a major endeavor, of course. Just going through each guy, name by name, my guess is that the membership was even more Napolitan' than I thought. Mainly Campanian surnames here, though some could also be from Calabria, Puglia, Basilicata, or Lazio. A few Northern names as well, which I expected, but doesn't seem out of range of the few that we saw for the Gambinos. Interestingly, among the relatively few obviously Sicilian surnames here, a number seem to have been most likely from the Eastern provinces.

I was thinking along the same lines. There are some Calabrian names that really caught my eye but yeah, they appear to be in the minority. I thought the Gambinos would have had more Calabresi but nope. The Colombos will turn out having the majority of them, just watch, lol.PolackTony wrote: ↑Mon Apr 18, 2022 2:45 pm Thanks for getting this started. You're like a friggin' machine with these, lol.

Yeah. I'm hoping some Genovese experts can weigh in and set me correct on the 1963 hierarchy, as well as tell me if there are any members that should be added or taken off. Aside from that, I'll use Mafiamembershipcharts as a starting point after I pillage the FBN book.

Re: Visiting the West Side 1963
I think Charles Masseria was Calogero who was killed 5/20/1913 in Cleveland. Gentile mentioned a brother of Masseria in CL in 1930 and I think that may be Salvatore who later died 3/19/1936.
11/12/1912 - I received the following letter from Agent Nye, dated Pittsburgh, PA Nov 11, 1912: "I saw an informant last night and he told me that a man named PEPPINO LEONARDO, who has a saloon at 9th and Orange St, Cleveland, O, was a leader of the BLACK HAND gang there and had been handling cft coins, that one CHAS. MASSERIA, a tailor at 2631 22nd St, was also handling the coins.

Re: Visiting the West Side 1963
I’m planning to maybe try to tackle genealogies one crew at a time, given the large membership. Still have guys from Chicago and now KC to follow-up on but I’ll have a lot more time to devote soon. Maybe we will wind up seeing something we didn’t expect, like with the Gambinos being a bit less Sicilian and Philly being more Sicilian than I assumed.Chris Christie wrote: ↑Mon Apr 18, 2022 3:30 pmI was thinking along the same lines. I already have the excel started. Just adding the info from the FBN book now. If you want I can send it tonight but I'll have more added tomorrow.PolackTony wrote: ↑Mon Apr 18, 2022 4:44 pmI’m planning to maybe try to tackle genealogies one crew at a time, given the large membership. As far as crews go, I don't think we have all the info, the Valachi chart only had 6 crews listed if I recall.
As for the other charts, I've exhausted all efforts on Tampa, Detroit, Kansas City, Philadelphia and the Gambinos. Waiting for Scott D on Tampa and Scott B on Detroit (no rush of course) as well as the 1950 census for the Gambinos to update addresses. But for the names on these excels I don't have info on, if no one can get farther on them than I could, I'll have to just omit the info. Not the worst thing in the world but it does increase the margin of error when it comes to the stats.

Re: Visiting the West Side 1963
Hard to say, as I have 5 Masseria brothers in Cleveland. Calogero, Carlo “Charlie” (1882-1954), Salvatore, Mercurio “Michael” (1889-1952), and Vincenzo “James” (1898-1977). So far as I recall, Gentile doesn’t specify the name of the Masseria brother who opposed Milano in 1930 and was told to stand down by Joe the Boss.Chris Christie wrote: ↑Mon Apr 18, 2022 4:42 pm I think Charles Masseria was Calogero who was killed 5/20/1913 in Cleveland. FWIW, in 1920 Carlo “Charlie” stated that he was a tailor.

Could the Neapolitan influence be a result of the Mafia-Camorr war and incorporating the Napolitans into LCN?PolackTony wrote: ↑Mon Apr 18, 2022 2:45 pm Thanks for getting this started. You're like a friggin' machine with these, lol.

Re: Visiting the West Side 1963
There's a Michael Clemente and Alex DiBrizzi listed as Genovese members. I need to compare those names to the Gambino chart. I believe Alex DiBrizzi was part of the latter.
Also, Carmine Battaglia of Newark was the suspected Phila. capo who turned out to be Gen so have to add him.

Re: Visiting the West Side 1963
Great list! Alex DiBrizzi is definitely a Gambino.
I also believe that the DeCurtis' were too? It makes sense they may have been on this list though as I believe that Eddie was very close to the Greenwich Village Genovese in the 1950s.

This is a rather interesting figure, born in Chicago, joined the Gens, one daughter married Johnny Dio's brother and another married Sam Meli, son of Detroit's Angelo Meli.
I think the father is from Nivosia, Enna. Rosaria Beritelli (Bertelli?) is harder for me to find, someone with that name was going to Chicago who listed their hometown as Marano Marchesano not I'm not sure it's her. Dorina's right name is Gazzola and her family is from Piacenza.

Re: Visiting the West Side 1963
Oh man... awesome stuff. Can't thank you enough. Super interesting. I've been trying to read more about this era of LCN in general, but especially more about the two big "G" families around the time of the La Stella meeting in Queens - so this is right up my alley. I don't know much about this post-Appalachin disarray era of LCN and the Genovese seem to be, as usual, the most interesting and hard to pin down during this time.
I had no idea that Trigger Mike Coppola was still around and in an official position as late as the 1960s, and also didn't know that Buster Ardito was an active official member that long ago...jesus christ. Wasn't that guy active in the early 2000s as well, as a part of a panel or acting admin? He was holding court at a few restaurants every day in the Bronx and New Rochelle. What was he going to do, gum a guy to death?
I have a couple random, spotty questions...
1st - I'd like to know more about Ardito from back in the 60s though - later in life he was a "Bronx guy" but I think he was born and raised in Corona, IIRC? I know the Luccheses had a legit presence in Corona back in those days, and were pretty big in Queens (especially compared to their Queens presence today) - but what about the Genovese? Did the West Side have a Corona / Queens crew back then??
2nd - Was this Livorsi guy FROM Chicago like that for real, or was he born in Chicago and moved to NYC early in life? A Chicago to NYC move seems a little strange IMO. Livorsi is an interesting figure for sure. God damn. It seems like he had a lot of important friends in a lot of important places, and that he was super plugged in to East Harlem as a whole back then. Let me take a wild guess and speculate that he was a heroin guy? Why the fuck else was he that plugged in to East Harlem back then?

Re: Visiting the West Side 1963
Great list and a huge endeavor no doubt. Took a look at the member list - I didn’t recognize any members from the Springfield MA crew…and would they have had a Springfield captain in 1963?
Another name that I thought was made before 1963 was Andrew/Andy Gerardo from Richie the Boots crew?
I know you’re just getting started and look forward to seeing how this progresses.

Interesting. There were a bunch of Nicosiani in Chicago and several were with the Outfit.Chris Christie wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 5:34 am This is a rather interesting figure, born in Chicago, joined the Gens, one daughter married Johnny Dio's brother and another married Sam Meli, son of Detroit's Angelo Meli.

I note that Livorsi grew up on 107 St in East Harlem. There was a Mariano Cordovano who a 1960s FBI document who was from 107 and 2nd Ave, and I suspect was related to Chicago member Jimmy Cordovano from the Chinatown crew. The Cordovanos were Nocosiani as well.
