No, Calabrese was never a capo. He was formally a soldier in the Chinatown crew but functioned as a de facto "crew boss" over associates like Ronnie Jarrett as well as his brother Nick (also a soldier).

I thought that it was Angelo J. LaPietra who was the boss of the Calabrese brothers and their crew.

LaPietra was the capo of the crew. In formal mafia terms, he was capo of the Chinatown decina. “Crew boss” was just way to refer to a soldier that had a subcrew of guys answering to him. Usually these were associates, but Nick C also basically worked for his brother, even though they were both technically soldiers. So far as we know the term “crew boss” didn’t refer to a formal mafia rank but was just a way of designating a soldier with more clout or status (like calling someone a “lieutenant” to a capo) who had a group of guys working under him. Frank Calabrese ran a major juice loan operation, and Nick basically worked for him on that.davidf1989 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 08, 2022 7:58 pm I thought that it was Angelo J.
