Given it's Capeci (and his entire narrative of Calandra's dust-up at a coffee shop incorrect), I'm going to assume there was a confrontation - verbal - where voices raised and former thugs making testosterone-driven threats. At some point, a punch "may" have been thrown and "potentially" one of the two went down. I'm presuming this the case. Durso is of course a rat but his story has never been put to the test as all of the defendants took plea deals which is not indicative that the motivating factors of his cooperation validated.

1. We are aware of Durso's repeated claim of an unpaid debt by Polito and reacting by contracting a murder of the debt-holder, Durso's cousin. I did read - wish I can locate - an active street guy's commentary that it not true. There was another financial arrangement - maybe where Polito paid back the money - and moves made against Polito - financially and physically; hence, he reacted.

2. Durso as a tough guy. Based on Durso's account, he attempted to murder Polito but the shotgun jammed. All of you can determine the truth of this, if you have experience with weapons, I don't.

3. Durso cites several assaults of hang-around guys; maybe it true he is good with his hands. But are the underlying root causes true? such as wire-room operator being incompetent.

4. Sending a letter warning of your martial arts skills is completely silly. What to read of such a claim while trying to accept Durso may be a tough guy?

Number 4 is a really good point. That part was hilarious in the letter. He may as well have said "down in Florida I have to register my hands as lethal weapons"

About the rest, I am not sure. It's a really interesting story during an interesting time of LCN involving a family we don't really hear TOO much about. Take it how it will, and I know it sounds like bullshit, but I found out somewhat recently (within the past 5-6 years) that a family member of mine has been friends with Mario Fortunato for a long time , Mario was at the scene of the shooting and while he probably doesn't talk about it too much, he holds on to the story that they were playing cards and unknown robbers/intruders entered to rob everyone and accidentally shot someone. That's his story. He's a pretty revered guy in that neighborhood and not in the "LCN" type of sense but in the sense that he's just a good and helpful guy and has done a lot for the people around there.

I remember reading on these boards back in the day that it was rumored basically Polito was just more plugged in at the end of the day. That's it. D'Urso threatened Frank Serpico over the phone who he didn't know at that time, which probably put him on the shit list, and Polito was supposedly always tight with Barney Bellomo and was given a pass on the debt and on the hit. Fast forward today and Polito is now supposedly a captain and lives in like a 2 million dollar house in Whitestone. There are a lot of Politos in Queens and a lot them are successful, not sure if they are all related or related to Carmine Polito even, but it wouldn't be surprising if they were.

I don't know shit about guns either but I didn't know that shotguns can even jam like that. Knowing the limited info I know about guns it seems like it would take a lot for a shotgun to jam, versus a semi-auto handgun. Different mechanisms. If it's a pump action shotgun...maybe? A non pump-action shotgun I can't see how it would ever jam.

Shotguns can jam but usually after the first shot. Semi auto or pump, thats where your most likely to have problems. The shell can get stuck in the port and youll have a failed ejection, with the 2nd shell being unable to be used until the breach is cleared. However the first shot? Either your gun is very, very dirty, or you're an idiot who doesnt know how to load/use/take the safety off a shotgun. Im kindof doubting that cookie here ever held a shotgun, let alone tried to use one. Relatively speaking, shotguns are idiot proof.
