Gaggi was locked up or under indictment at the time all the changes were happening...who took over the Gaggi crew?

Was the top echelon informant Willie Boy Johnson or Joe Watts?Browniety86 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 01, 2022 6:00 amI forgot about that, for saying DeCicco was an informant right? That actually could of had some merit to it because I've read multiple times that there was an TE informant in the Gambino Family at that time...

Thanks for your message and I found this article written by Jerry Capeci about Joe Watts being a possible informer on gangster bb. I put the link below.Browniety86 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 01, 2022 8:44 pmdavidf1989 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 01, 2022 8:36 pmWas the top echelon informant Willie Boy Johnson or Joe Watts?Browniety86 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 01, 2022 6:00 amI forgot about that, for saying DeCicco was an informant right? - Bumped Johnny Gambino to a captain soon after
Re: Gotti coronation Dec/Jan '86
One of the best tapes is Gotti telling Remini about a dispute he had with Joe Gallo. Gallo told Gotti he couldn't demote him because consigliere is elected by the Family, so Gotti told him he'd demote a bunch of the captains and put captains of his choice in place for a day so they could vote Gallo out, then put the original captains back in place. Gallo told him "Where'd you learn that?"
As for DeCicco/informant... I was the one who pushed that theory on here but there are a lot of questions. Sclafani apparrently had paperwork and we know his mother-in-law was giving him legitimate LE info since at least 1975 (she was indicted for the years 1975-1983). What was on the paperwork? Was DeCicco explicitly ID'd as an informant or was it redacted and open to interpretation? Why give people legit info for years only to spread a lie about a rising star that could get Sclafani killed?
I'm more hesitant about DeCicco now after finding out many Gambino members believed a certain high-level associate was an informant. This guy was very close to DeCicco, Castellano, and Gotti, so he would have been in a position to furnish info about Castellano's kitchen, the Ravenite apt, etc. and would have similar info to DeCicco. It really depends on what was in that paperwork Sclafani had.
I've seen an FBI report from 1986 where a CI says DiBernardo was killed by Gravano and Ruggiero right after it happened. Maybe a lot of people knew that on the street, but crazy the FBI knew right away who killed DB. Who was that informant? DeCicco was dead.

Another thing about informants... I posted this a while back:
This is from the 1970s and we know Lombardozzi was a longtime FBI informant (gave a lot of info in the 1960s and was reactivated by the FBI in 1975).
Gambino members rightfully suspected Lombardozzi was an informant in the 1970s, but flash forward to the 1980s and younger Brooklyn guys like Gravano and DiLeonardo never heard that even though they knew Frankie the Wop and ran in those circles. They knew Carmine bagged a member's daughter, but thought of him as the real deal.
Lombardozzi somehow fixed his "mafia credit score" at some point which is pretty interesting. Maybe it was his earning ability, kind of the inverse of Scarpa who escaped the rumors because he was a prolific killer.

Here is an article about Carmine Lombardozzi and another informant Alfredo Santantonio in the Gambino family. It seems that they gave up a lot of information on the Family.B. wrote: ↑Tue Mar 01, 2022 9:52 pm Another thing about informants... I posted this a while back:

The book the last good heist written by Tim White from WPRI suggests that a Gotti associate Richard Redbird Gomes was one of the informants who helped to identify the bonded vault robbers. I put the link below for the book if anyone is interested.

Marino was a nephew of Lombardozzi and one of the guys who lined up against Gotti, so def seems to be a Castellano loyalist. LCNBios said he reported direct to Castellano's admin before Gotti took over. Castellano's influence could well have helped restore Lombardozzi's rep given the informant rumors predated his time as official boss.
Be interesting to know if the informant rumors died out on their own or if someone (i.e. Castellano) sent word to cut it out.
Didn't Capeci or someone report that Failla was involved in a plot to kill Junior Gotti in the 1990s? All of the murders of Gambino guys and other attempts/plots from 1986-1991 are kind of crazy. People don't talk about it like a mafia war but if the Secret Service was getting reports in the 1910s/20s that those hits were done by the other Families like they were, we'd be calling it the 4th Great Mafia War.

There was also the plot by Bobby Manna to kill John and Gene Gotti. Then in the esrly 1990s there was the plot to Killy Junior Gotti and if I'm not mistaken Nick Corozzo.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.
Re: Gotti coronation Dec/Jan '86
Good reminder. Wonder if the Corozzo plot was in cahoots with the Failla one -- someone wrote about how Failla was meeting with Junior while secretly plotting his death but can't remember who said it. Do you remember that?Pogo The Clown wrote: ↑Wed Mar 02, 2022 1:56 pm There was also the plot by Bobby Manna to kill John and Gene Gotti.
