Gotti coronation Dec/Jan '86

Post by Browniety86 »

What moves did John Gotti make after taking over as boss other than:

1) Breaking Anthony Scotto from captain and installing Sonny Ciccone.
2) Displacing Joe N. Gallo as consigliere
3) Naming Angelo Ruggiero as Bergin crew captain
4) Promoted Frank DiCicco to underboss and promoted Salvatore Gravano to Aurello crew captain...

I'm talking in terms of middle to upper echelon positions being restructured...

I forgot about that, for saying DeCicco was an informant right? That actually could of had some merit to it because I've read multiple times that there was an TE informant in the Gambino Family at that time...

Can you imagine the "self reflection" going on in the Gambino Family after all of this? I bet more than a few guys were thinking of heading to the hills.

Until him and Piney Armone caught that case and went away right? The one where Armone was given the opportunity to admit his membership to the Gambino Family in exchange for being home with his family for Christmas and Gotti refused? I think Armone sent the message from jail ask permission from Gotti via his nephew Jack the Actor...

He promoted George DeCicco to replace Frank DeCicco as captain.

I don't know. Didn't seem like a radical series of initial moves. Happens all the time in the legitimate sector when there's a change in the head of a company or department. Castellano made changes when he took over.

What I always wondered was why Tony Scotto was broken down from captain? He was a legend on the docks. Very influential. Was he in legal hot water or something along those lines...

No one talks about the Nettie Cirelli apt. Everyone thinks Gotti just started using it in 1989. He was using it right away aftter the Castellano hit and it was somoene at the top of the borgota who gave it up to the FBI as an informant in 1989. So make your picks now or forever hold your peace!

There is a ton of info that points to DeCicoo. There have been multiple posts about it over the years.

Could anyone outside of the family, perhaps an admin member of another family, have known about the Cirelli apt?

They talked about it in one of the Gotti books. The Feds had the Ravenite bugged where they picked up casual conversation among the guys. Overtime they noticed that Gotti and select others would go quiet for long periods of time and they began to wonder where they went. Their surveillance teams confirmed that none of them left the building so they knew they were still inside and meeting somewhere other than the club. Some way or another they deduced they were meeting in the
Cirelli apartment and you know the rest.
