Pretty crazy story ,NYC concrete Empire Transit Mix Inc
The man who allegedly shot his parents at their Long Island mansion Christmas morning....
Dino Tomassetti Sr. The father of Dino who got shot and the grandfather of the shooter Dino was connected to the Gambino and Colombo crime families,

Dino Tomassetti is accused of shooting his 65-year-old father in the back and 64-year-old mother in the head at their tony Hewlett Harbor home just after 10 a.m. Saturday, according to Nassau County cops.

Over the years, Dino Tomassetti Sr. has also been linked by investigators to organized crime figures, including Ralph Scopo, a leading official of the Cement and Concrete Workers District Council and a reputed member of the Colombo family, and Edward Garafola, a member of the Gambino family. In December 2004, Michael DiLeonardo, a high-level mob turncoat, testified in the racketeering trial of Peter Gotti that the Gambino family had a “working relationship” with Laquila, which had paid it $75,000 in “key money” to get into the concrete business in Manhattan.
“We had control of the industry,” Mr. DiLeonardo testified. “For them to get into the industry, they would have to pay us.” He testified that Laquila then paid $10,000 a month that was split between the Gambino and Colombo families.

Re: Pretty crazy story ,NYC concrete Empire Transit Mix Inc
For sure this company is still kicking up. This is probably a very big deal for the Gambinos if they die. This is probably one of their better $ makers if they still Rep it.

I think Colombo captain Dino testified that Laquila paid 10k a month to the Colombo's alone. Kind of crazy they still had that kind of influence in the 2000s.
Re: Pretty crazy story ,NYC concrete Empire Transit Mix Inc
The families have been able to stick around the cement industry. The industry still has a lot of smaller players that have been around awhile.

these are family friends of mine. very wierd story. the father actually had a second family and named his sons dino and rocco like his original family. the other dino runs laquilla and is big in realestate. they kicked up, pay to play forever. once the hook is in you it doesnt come loose. the house actually has a floor where if you step on a certain tile, it triggers alarms

Are big construction firms really still paying mob tax in 2021? What benefit would the construction companies get by doing that? Just curious, I thought this racket ended years ago.
Re: Pretty crazy story ,NYC concrete Empire Transit Mix Inc
Peace of mind from the remaining mob controlled unions and under threat of violence. Like in the 2017 Lucchese indictment they where using union control to intimidate contractors in the construction of the Bronx Lebanon Hospital to pay up and have “peace of mind”.
And if I remember correctly violence still plays a part in these type of extortions. In the 2019 bonanno indictment with Cammarano Jr they beat up the father of a garbage contractor to get him to pay up

Story I heard which I have no idea if it’s true or not because I know nothing of these people is the Grandfather died last year and this weighed heavily on the grandson to whom he was very close. The Grandson asked his father for money to open a gym and was refused which somehow lead to the shooting.

While we still see mob cases that include charges of extorting construction companies, it's not as common as it used to be, and I don't know about any "big" ones. In fact, the Crea and Campos indictments didn't really involve straight up extortion like in the past but were examples of the mob engaging in various types of business racketeering in the construction industry we're increasingly seeing.Dave65827 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 9:11 pm Peace of mind from the remaining mob controlled unions and under threat of violence. In the Crea case, they falsified invoices and change orders in order to "pad the bill" and increase the overall cost of the Bronx-Lebanon hospital project by an extra $5 million; with the money going to the Luccheses and hospital executives. The construction company involved (Sparrow Construction) was a non-union company tied to Crea for years and the Luccheses simply used their influence or reputation to keep the unions from picketing or disrupting the project. It was pretty much the same thing in the Campos case. They were bribing construction company employees and real estate developers to award a Gambino construction company contracts and approve change orders so they could overbill.
All roads lead to New York.

Was reading a story and collectively these are monster companies. This guy has to be one of Gambinos biggest $ maker with serious influence on major construction projects. Pretty impressive to be honest.queensnyer wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 6:25 pm these are family friends of mine. very wierd story. the father actually had a second family and named his sons dino and rocco like his original family. the other dino runs laquilla and is big in realestate. they kicked up, pay to play forever. once the hook is in you it doesnt come loose. the house actually has a floor where if you step on a certain tile, it triggers alarms

The construction industry lends itself to corruption and fraud. There are firms tied to organized crime. There are many others that are not. The largest GCs are gigantic corporations that employ “white collar” college educated PMs, execs, etc, and some of those execs engage in bribery, kickbacks. There was a huge case years back involving high level execs at Turner (one of the worlds bigger construction firms) and executives from Bloomberg’s internal facilities department. They managed to fleece Bloomberg out of millions. There was no allegation of mob involvement.
I don’t think it’s “controlled” by mob like it used to be. Back in the 70s/80s, Vinny DiNapoli and Fat Tony controlled the drywall industry. Castellano and his cronies controlled local 282. Different ballgame today. But there are still remnants.
