What would a legit casino in Manhattan mean for the Five Families?
Okay as a gambler this casino sounds pretty awesome:
https://markets.businessinsider.com/new ... ar-2021-12
Now, if this thing gets built in NYC, surely the mob might try to move on it somehow.
Do you guys think this could be a real opportunity for the mob if it goes forward? I seriously doubt if they will be getting into the count rooms like in Casino, but I'm sure there's a million different ways they could get involved. Taking into consideration the current state of affairs with the Five Families, what are some potential revenue streams they could exploit? And how could it affect their illegal gambling business?

If this went through, considering this is NYC, I assume authorities would go to great lengths to keep the mob out. I don't see many ways they could exploit it. Maybe some lower profile connected subcontractors with the initial construction. No doubt a lot of oversight to ensure ancillary services don't go to mobbed up companies.
I don't think the casino would have all that much effect on the mob's illegal gambling. Card and casino games are already a relatively passe racket for the mob anyway. Like the casinos in AC, this would largely service a different type of sports bettor than the ones who bet with illegal bookies. May even create some degenerates who end up having to bet on credit anyway.

The 5 families will use figureheads to make money with the construction of the casinò and through loansharking on gamblers but now it's all electronic, they can't go to the vault and steal the cash.
The only sure thing is they will try to hire someone on the casino staff.

Let's not forget Resorts NYC has already been operating for a decade now. I read a recent article about how New York doesn't have an exclusion system in place like New Jersey or Nevada. Nevertheless, I'm not aware of any infiltration by organized crime yet.

Resorts World in Queens is a joke. Was out there recently as I go to the track, and saw they have a Hotel attached now. Was thinking what a complete waste it was - who in their right mind - unless they are at JFK and they have a flight cancelled until the next day - would stay at that hotel for any reason when visiting NYC? Who is traveling to NYC just to stay in the ass end of Queens to play slots and video poker?

I didn't know about this place but holy shit even their high limit rooms are video games! This is beyond fucking pathetic, it should be illegal to call this a "casino". Why would anyone go there? Is it actually successful?newera_212 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 12:11 pm Resorts World in Queens is a joke. Was out there recently as I go to the track, and saw they have a Hotel attached now. Will the one in Manhattan be like this?
True, but again having looked into this place a bit it's really stretching the definition of a "casino".

Resorts seems to be for locals. The way they are describing the Manhattan casino is something Steve Wynn or Stanley Ho would come up with. Much more high end.Ivan wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 2:16 pmI didn't know about this place but holy shit even their high limit rooms are video games! Probably won’t mean much because they have their gamblers and it’s untaxed

That was my impression, too. Seems to be geared toward the kind of people who have "flying cars" (?).
I'm still cracking up over how lame the Resorts "casino" is. Shoutout to newera_212 for making me aware of its sad existence.

Re: What would a legit casino in Manhattan mean for the Five Families?
Yeah the Manhattan one would have to be world class, no doubt about that. I'm not much of a Casino person but part of me would be real curious and interested to see what they do with it.
The Resorts World "racino" is baffling. I have no idea why it was done. Someone must have done some sort of study to determine that the local demographic would support it. Or they did some sort of case study and figured out that the Yonkers track did better overall when they added slots. Or it's just some sort of contracting cash grab and/or money laundering play with a joint effort between local politicians, institutional investors, and foreign investors.
The place is really sad. Maybe it was done to "boost" the track, but again, I go to the track pretty frequently and I can say there's not much cross traffic between the track patrons and the casino patrons. Every time I've walked onto the Casino floor it's been a ghost town (even before COVID) and I have never once seen anybody in the high limit / high stakes room they have. There's no sportsbook there (yet) so there's not much of a reason for people to go watch football games at the bar. What's even crazier is that there is a brand new hotel and an insanely big parking garage they just added on. The racetrack (as much as I love it) was already a real depressing down-and-out type of place, even on stakes race days, so for it to get worse is kind of funny. Maybe they're planting seeds for when actual gaming and sports gambling are fully legal in NY and eventually the place will turn into a real casino. South Ozone Park, Queens doesn't really scream exotic or classy though - no offense to anyone from there. It's one of the least visually appealing neighborhoods in the whole city, located next to the airport. The neighborhood is a mix of fresh off the boat immigrants, and degenerate white trash. Whether you're driving or taking public transportation, it's far from most of the other livable areas of NYC. Maybe people really are just waiting for the legalization of table games and sports to take time out of their day to go... but I just don't see it as a destination type of place for the casual gambler looking for a nice time. For degenerate dime-slot players and horse players, it's the place to be. I'd personally rather go down to AC and at least get to hit the beach as well if I am going to be doing any of that

Re: What would a legit casino in Manhattan mean for the Five Families?
Yeah I am picturing this place and I bet it's full of old people who like to gamble small amounts and poor people who still play slots with what little money they have. So there's probably a ton of locals who fit that description. I bet the FOB immigrants love the cheap slots. And the horse racing at least seems legit, so there are probably some serious guys betting on the ponies there.newera_212 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 3:44 pm For degenerate dime-slot players and horse players, it's the place to be.
I'm getting depressed just thinking about the place.
I want to check out Atlantic City some day. I've never been there (I live in Las Vegas so I'm not exactly wanting in terms of gambling facilities) but I count cards playing blackjack and apparently they can't back you off from a game if you're counting (they can in Las Vegas).

Really? I've never heard that... that's interesting. I wonder why that is? I figured if you're known to have any sort of edge you'd be gone immediately but maybe in AC some places are just glad to have the action? Lol. Nah for real though, I know a couple cops who used to love to goto AC every other weekend to play blackjack and they were saying now, even though there is a live dealer at the table, that there's some sort of machine that does the shuffling/dealing. My friend was telling me that an unknown number of decks go into this shoe and the dealer just pulls the card out.Ivan wrote:

The racetrack in Queens is great though. If you ever visit NYC you should check it out. They race in the fall/winter and it's probably one of the last un-touched, un-gentrified spots left in NYC.. even with the Resorts World upgrade. No matter how old you are, you're going to be younger than everyone else there by at least 20 years. All of the patrons look like Vinny Asaro. You can smoke, drink, basically do whatever you want within reason. I love watching & playing the races there, it's my "safe space" lol

Re: What would a legit casino in Manhattan mean for the Five Families?
Yeah they were sued by Ken Uston and he won the lawsuit banning Atlantic City from barring card counters. He tried the same thing in Vegas but it didn't work there.newera_212 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 15, 2021 10:07 pm Really? I've never heard that... that's interesting. I wonder why that is? You're talking about continuous shuffle machines, which make it impossible to count. There's a handful of those in Las Vegas here and there, but I bet they're all over the place in AC since counting is allowed there.
Surprised to hear you can smoke at the track. I figured the DeBlasio types would be total Nazis about any cigarette smoking in NYC anywhere. Never got into horses but the place sounds legit from your description.

10 million a week , that will get some people open
"A recent study conducted by the gaming commission estimated that opening three new downstate casinos — which include the conversions of Aqueduct and Yonkers and opening a new casino in Manhattan — could generate between $420 million and $630 million in revenues per year"
Operators and state officials hope that licenses could be issued within six months.

Table games with no slots? OK now that sounds pretty classy.joeycigars wrote: ↑Wed Dec 15, 2021 11:30 pm 10 million a week , that will get some people open

The slots players can content themselves with the Racino.
Also the article makes it sound like that the Racino owners are going to grab one of the licenses so they can turn the Racino into a real casino. And Wiseguy is sounds like Steve Wynn is interested.
