Hey Chris!

Benny Terranova would have for sure been in that Scotto crew. I have that he died in the late-1970s (specifically between 1975-1977), but I can't seem to find my source. I know that up until 1974 he was still a delegate of ILA 1814.

I also wonder about some of those other older ILA 1814/1277 officials that date back to the Anthony Anastasio days, but for most I can't confirm who was made and who wasn't. Lots passed away in the 1960s and 1970s anyway.

Hey Clark, thanks. Do you know alot or keep track of their unions/operations for that period? If I make a 1980's operations chart I could use the help when I get to it.

In the FBN book, it says Alfonso Mosca [Sr] married Sadie Oddo. Not sure how accurate that is.

Yeah, I have pretty good records/documentation of just the ILA going way back, but I am not too great with any other unions outside of that. If you ever want to do the operations chart, PM me. I would be happy to help! When ILA 1814 was really big, they all swapped positions like musical chairs, but I have been able to nail it down for the most part.

The Gambino family is interesting with the waterfront. Whereas the Genovese had a handful of members in official positions and used a lot of fronts, the Gambino family never seemed to shy away from having members in the union and also made guys who weren't exactly "street" but were specifically union (ie. Scotto, Cinisomo etc.).

This has to be "our" Benny Terranova.

https://digitaltamiment.hosting.nyu.edu ... h/item/730

Looked in some records and found that his father´s name was Ciro (born in or around 1882, owned a bakery), mother´s name Mary. The son Benny´s name is spelled differently in different records (Benedito/Benidito/Benedetto etc) so can not find a DOD for him.

Btw, it doesn´t appear all the Moscas were in same crew. Ralph Mosca (for example) was under Frank Rizzo who headed a crew later taken over by (probably) Nicholas Melillo. All East Harlem Gambino guys were under Rizzo or Napolitano. Melillo was originally from East Harlem.

Question, has anyone ever tried to correct the 1963 chart w added names and attempted to divide the soldiers into crews? Is such a thing possible? I ask because there's overlap with 1980 names.

One thing I'm noticing is just how diverse these crews are. Granted I've only gone through 1/4 of the crews, I took note that there were Sicilians in the Caiazza crew and Naps under Conte.

Among the Five, crews aren't created equally. Some can be traced back to the 1900's whereas others were created when former crews or split up and/or guys moved around. I'm curious if there's any info on Gambino and Castellano's organizational decisions in this realm.

There were two sets of Rumores in NYC, one from Corleone who were in-laws of Gius. Morello and employees of his Ignazio Florio Associazione and another from Bisacquino. The two Gambino Rumore brothers- Louis and Salvatore Rumore's parents were Antonio Rumore and Marietta D'Aleo. Surname D'Aleo stuck out to me because there was a Tomasso and Ignazio D'Aleo who were Boss and Sostituto of Acqusanta who were related to Isodoro Crocivera in NY. In 1875 one Giovanni Riccobono and a Rosalia D'Aleo would marry in Palermo. Rumore's mother Marietta's father was Luigi D'Aleo and her mother was Rosalia Giardina. I can't locate Marietta's info to tell where she came from but she was married to Antonio Rumore in NY making it slightly more possible she's not Bisacquinese like him. If she was from Palermo she may have come from a nest of interrelated members. It needs more research before any conclusions can be drawn.

Does anyone have any information on Jerome Brancato (b 1/30/1928)? The guy I've honed in on was born on this birth date to father Jerome Sr, whose father was Rosario who came from Palermo. However Jerome Sr married a Louise Pitschman in 1921, meaning if this is the guy, he was only half-Ital. First I've encountered this so I'm just dropping it here. I know in the 70's there was some ruling where it was decided to lower to criteria to being only half and maybe this guy is one example. Or I'm mistaken and chased down the wrong guy.

Jerry Brancato's obit is below. It lists a brother named George. I searched and found an obit for a Louise Brancato from 1970 (husband, Jerome) with kids, Jerry and George, so it appears to be the same guy.

Brancato and George Barone from the Genovese family are good examples of influential and well-respected old-timers who didn't have 100% Italian heritage. In Brancato's case, his mother was German. Here's her obituary:

Interesting. They are rare in 1980, only found one other guy with a mother born in France but her surname was Volpe. Brancato from Palermo though, could have had bloodlines on his paternal side or he could have just been a criminal addition into the network like Gravano.

Also. Thank you for the responses. I am prone to mistakes and it helps to verify.

For Frank D'Apolito, 12/1/23, I have his parents being Nunzio and Giovanna Veltri from Mugnano del Cardinale, Salerno.. Does that sound right? Spoke to someone who thought he was Sicilian.

I've come across a great amount of Salernitans in the Gambinos, at least 3 captains. Michele Caiazza, Salernitan was considered a Dellacroce guy, a fact that DiLeonardo also confirmed, leading to the belief that the Napolitan and Salernitans fell in with one another, makes sense given that they were one province over.

I guess, if they fell under the Naps it might easier to just label them that for simplicity sake (just like I'm labeling Bisacquinese-descended members as Sciaccatan despite Bisacquino being in Palermo province.) There are members of Salernitan descent but I've never heard any fully constituted Salernitan mob faction like Gambino "Dellacroce wing" or the "Calabrese Faction" of Philadelphia or even the go-along-get-along Sciaccatan of NY/NJ.

Thoughts, input, opinions welcome.
