Gambino 1960's Chart (in progress)

Post by Angelo Santino »

Stilling working on 1980 but there's overlap, which made me start thinking of the Valachi 1963 Gambino chart which I never corrected.

1 Based off of Pogo's Capo succession list, here's who was Captain around this this time-
Armand "Tommy" Rava (1950s-1957) Killed.
-In 1957 this Crew was split between Aniello “Neil” Dellcaroce and Carmine "Charlie Wagons" Fattico. The Aurello-Gravano Crew could have broken off from this Crew as well.
Aniello "Neil" Dellacroce (1957-1965) Became UnderBoss.

Fatico-Gotti Crew: Broke off from the Rava Crew in 1957?
Carmine "Charlie Wagons" Fattico (1957?-1986) Stepped Down.

Joseph Franco (Early/Mid 1950s-1957) Died.
Carmine “The Doctor” Lombardozzi (1957-1963) Demoted.

Francesco "Frank/Don Cheech" Scalise (1931-1957) Killed.
-In 1957 this crew was split between Arthur “Chink” Leo and David “Papa Dave” Amodeo.

-Vincent "Jimmy" Squilante broke off from this Crew in the 1950s.

Amodeo Crew: Broke off from the Scalise Crew in 1957.
David “Papa Dave” Amodeo (1957-1970s) Stepped Down.

Squilante Crew: Split off from the Scalise Crew.
Vincent "Jimmy" Squilante (1950s-1960) Killed.
-In 1960 this Crew was split between Rocco “Rogie” Mazzie and Anthony “Tony the Geep” Sedotto.

Anthony “Tony the Geep” Sedotto (1960-1970s)

Gravano-Vario Crew: Likely broke off from the Rava Crew.
Anthony Rizzo (1957-1962) Died.
Peter “Petey Pumps” Ferrara (1962-1969) Died.

Are there soldiers that are known but not on the orig chart? - http://www.museumsyndicate.com/images/6/55764.jpg

If I make this, we probably lack the knowledge to break this down crew by crew.

You got less wrong more than I'd ever get right on my own. Grazie.
That's around 130 names so there were more than 100 unidentified Gambinos in the 60s, am I right?

I think B. Made a great argument that the membership counts or at least caps have remained consistent and large-scale inductions were done after a drop off in membership (death) which we see in the 70s and what also looks like the 50s.

Yeah. Some of the Gambinos were identified later on in the 1960s and throughout the 1970s. The Gambino Family made a lot of new guys in the 1950s. I don´t know the exact number but it sure must have been way over 100, maybe close to 150. They made more less in the 1970s.

Another mistake I made is James Cusimano. He died in the late 1950s so he shouldn´t be on the list at all.

Riccobono, Joseph (semi retired)

Amodeo, "Papa" Dave
Arcuri, Domenico
Castellano, Paul
Colozzo, Joseph
Conte, Patsy
Corbi, Frank (Baltimore) * see note 1 below
Dongarra, Charley (semi retired) * see note 2 below
Dellacroce, Neil
Eppolito, Alfred
Ferarra, Peter
Gambino, Joseph (Carlo´s brother)
Gambino, Paul
Garofalo, Olympio
Leo, Arthur
Lombardozzi, Carmine (Under Indictment) * see note 3 below

Sedotto, Anthony
Silesi, Joseph (Florida)
Stincone, Peter

* Note 1 - The original captain was Frank Morici who stepped down sometime in 1963, I don´t know exactly when.

* Note 2 - Dongarra suffered an heart attack early 1961 which sidelined him for a couple of years. He used Joe N. Gallo as his acting captain.

* Note 3 - In 1963, Lombardozzi used 3 acting captains; first Mike Scandifia, then Dominick Castore and lastly Joseph Gennaro. I have no exact date when these acting captains stepped down and were replaced.

* Note 4 Zingaro declined an offer to become acting consigliere after Riccobono´s attempted suicide. So in 1963, the Family had no functional consigliere until Riccobono recovered.

Fascinating.

Was it ever confirmed that Scalise was selling memberships and were they ever identified? I remember reading Valachi testifying about how these members were to be told that the organization had been disbanded but he never went into who.

Chris, Angelo Mascia was identified as a captain by Santantonio January 1963. So he should be on the captain´s list. Mascia´s crew was formerly headed by Sedotto. So by 1963, Mascia had replaced Sedotto.

Yes. JD found some information which he posted about some years ago. I recall that John Daniello was one of the guys who had bought his button and was subsequently shelved. JD posted maybe 5 or 6 names, I don´t recall them.

Are the names still up or does anyone have them?

I was going to set this to 1960 but but I'll bump it to 63 since that appears to have been a time of turnover as far as capidecina go. I'll also list who they succeeded.

I wonder if the soldIers on the 1980 chart would be in the same crew in the 60s given they were members then, or they were moved around too infrequently to tell.

So looking over Pogos crew succession and comparing it with your list above...your list doesnt include Fatico, Aurello, Angeleone, Mazzie but includes Zingaro who Pogo doesnt have as a captain until the 70s when he succeeded gambino.

I wonder if the soldIers on the 1980 chart would be in the same crew in the 60s given they were members then, or they were moved around too infrequently to tell.
JD deleted all his post when he left so the names can not be found here.

Regarding crew affiliations, I think it´s very hard to know. There were certainly guys who were moved around and there were also guys who stayed with same crew their whole life. To figure out all the soldiers crew affiliations would include a LOT of guess work.

Aurello was made captain in 1969 succeeding Pete Ferrara. Fatico not listed as a captain by the FBI this early. My guess is that Fatico split off from Dellacroce´s crew sometime in late 1960s, when Dellacroce became underboss. Some soldiers stayed with Caiazza who had succeeded Dellacroce as crew leader. Fatico is first identified as a captain in or around 1970. Angelone was a captain in the 1970s, first acting, later official. This crew was formerly headed by Amadeo. Mazzie, although listed as a skipper way into the 1980s on most charts probably held a captain´s rank only in a couple of years (late 1950s to very early 1960s). He was sentenced to prison in 1960 on narcotics charges and wasn´t released until the 1970s. I´ve seen a reference on him in a FBI file that he was put under Zingaro in the early 1960s.
Zingaro is interesting. I think Pogo once said that he used to drive Paul Gambino around. That could suggest that he was originally in Paul Gambino´s crew. However, he is listed by the FBI as a captain this early (1963).

Loscalzo was one of the guys who payed for his button.
Another guy rumored to have paid was John (Johnny Pie) DeMatteo.
There was another zip named Fortunato Cicciu who's name I didn't see.
Also a guy named Pietro, who was a bread baker and for all intents and purposes was inactive into the 70's and 80's. I don't remember the guy's last name, but he was a zip too. There are probably a few more.
For a while all of these guys were on the razors edge of whether they'd be whacked or not, but eventually they were allowed to remain, but largely didn't do all that much with their positions, Loscalzo being the most "active" and out in the open of all of them.

"Angelo Mascia was identified as a captain by Santantonio January 1963. So he should be on the captain´s list. Mascia´s crew was formerly headed by Sedotto. So by 1963, Mascia had replaced Sedotto."

To avoid confusion (because I´ve seen the 5 Family crew succession lines thread where Sedotto is mentioned being a captain in the 1970s), Sedotto replaced Mascia as a captain later on in the 1960s but was again replaced by Mascia by 1976.
