Active street gangs in Detroit Modern day?
Was cruising down 8 mile yesterday and my curiosity started taking off. Plus, BMF release got me wondering as well. I feel like this question is totally up Scott Burnsteins alley, but I'm all ears if anyone is familiar with the Detroit gang scene because I genuinely have no idea. I'm more in tune with the limited Mafia happenings.
Thanks y'all.

Re: Active street gangs in Detroit Modern day?
Growing up in the 70s and 80s in South Los Angeles the names of the street gangs, mostly, were spinoff of the area they were in. Maybe it was a street name, an avenue or street number. I always wondered where the east coast and Midwest gangs came up with their names
Re: Active street gangs in Detroit Modern day?
The only ones that seem to make the papers are the 7 Mile Bloods. Basically different sets from East to Westside of 7 Mile rd. You also got Latin Counts in SW Detroit. Mainly based off Toledo st.

Funny how the Latin Counts blew up when they were brought to Detroit. In Chicago they are a rather middling to small organization. Dudes I knew from Detroit made them seem like one of the major gangs there. I guess they’re the other Detroit “LCN” lol.

Re: Active street gangs in Detroit Modern day?
7 mile bloods
And 42s (4 gang/crips) - newer gang that has taken over 6 mile and is at war with 7 mile.
I live on 6 mile and work on 7 so I have ppl on both sides
The music industry heads the way with gang politics rn
I.e. sada baby vs 42 dugg

Excellent and accurate list
The only one I don't know personally is Norton Shores
Do they have a location and affiliation???
All those are 3 different main groups with sub gangs for which area there at
Maxout 220 / smokecamp are part of East 7 Mile Bloods
Then you got the bounty hunter bloods that are also off of 7 mile - but West side
Latin counts and kings are SW Detroit and they fight with Spanish Cobras (possibly gone by now) / GD (Folk vs PPL ) same as blue vs red but the Spanish way

Re: Active street gangs in Detroit Modern day?
I'd say yes
They are actively talked about (including name dropped)
As where most the US major metropolitan cities have gone through gentrification and fought through crooked politics...
Detroit is still a city where you can do anything and open air drug markets are FREQUENT
Drugs I would say account for at least half of the income of Detroit, believe it or not.

Here's a map of the city, showing the neighborhoods/territories with very high gang activity.

Re: Active street gangs in Detroit Modern day?
Funny, my impression was always that Detroit wasn’t much of a gang city. Growing up I had a bunch of friends who were PRs who moved back and forth between Chicago and Detroit (I guess SW Detroit). Their opinion was that — apart from a few copycat Chicago imports like the Counts and Kings — Detroit didn’t have “real” gangs, but more like loose and unstable groups of drug cliques/crews. Maybe that wasn’t accurate then (90s) or maybe it’s changed since then. Given that they were originally from Chicago, their take was of course somewhat biased (they thought the Counts/Kings in the D were cornball wannabes).
