Sciascia-Renda-Ragusa-Vella-Caruana-Cuntrera connections, plus others

Giuseppe Sciascia, a brother-in-law to the Emanuele Ragusa who died May 18, 2018, passed away last Friday, September 3. The link to his online obituary, which is on the Loreto webisite, is below.

This Sciascia's wife--Giuseppina Ragusa, who died February 16, 2012--is the sister of Emanuele.

Giuseppe and Giuseppina's son Accursio, known more by his nickname "Alex," was mentioned on September 26, 2012 at the CEIC inquiry, i.e., the Charbonneau Commission--see below.



I have yet to establish a relationship by blood or marriage that Giuseppe Sciascia and his family members have to deceased Bonanno Family captain Gerlando Sciascia, who was related to Rendas by marriage as a result of his sister Domenica marrying Luciano Renda. Luciano Renda and Domenica Sciascia's disappeared-and-deceased son Giuseppe ("Joe")--Gerlando's nephew--was said by Sal Vitale to be a "goodfellow" in the Bonanno Family.

Emanuele Ragusa and wife Angela Cammalleri's daughter Antonina married Luigi Vella, a cousin to Alfonso Caruana. Ragusa and Cammalleri's son Pasquale ("Pat") married Elena Tortorici; daughter Eleonora married Nick Rizzuto Jr. (son of Vito), whose mother's maiden name is Cammalleri.

Agostino Cuntrera is said to have played matchmaker by introducing Giuseppe Renda to eventual wife Benedetta Castiglione ("Betty"). Renda had real-estate dealings in Quebec going back to at least 1993--see http://montrealgazette.com/news/local-n ... s-property.

I hope everyone who posts in this thread is willing to share not only genealogical findings but also other connections, such as business ties.

One or two of you who follow me on Twitter know that toward the end of Iast July, I posted a screenshot of a corporate profile for a one-time Montreal-based company that was incorporated in 1988 and whose four directors had been Giuseppe Lo Presti, Raynald Desjardins, a Joseph Sciascia, and a Frank Milioto.

I have indeed seen the first name of Desjardins spelled as "Reynald" in a number of places, including books, articles, and company profiles.

Interesting. I wonder if it concerned other Canadians (probably in my opinion), but Rizzuto also had lands in Venezuela including notably a ranch which Pasquale Cuntrera, Anonino Napoli, Giovanni Greco & Salvatore "Cicchiteddu" Greco also owned.

A Peter Ligammari and a Cinzia Ligammari were witnesses to the wedding. I have yet to look into whether this Peter is the Pietro Ligammari who, along with father Giovanni, was found hanging dead in May 1999, just 9 weeks after Gerlando Sciascia was killed.

The past few weeks I’ve been working on some profiles of first cousins Joe Renda and Joseph Sciascia, as well as a profile of Lorenzo Lo Presti. The info I found about Renda will be most illuminating. My plan is to combine the profiles in one thread, all the while making reference to Gerlando Sciascia and Giuseppe Lo Presti’s ties, hoping to go beyond the close friendship depicted in Lamothe and Humphreys’s book.

I think I’m close to confirming that the Peter Ligammari who was one of two official witnesses to Domenico Arcuri Jr.’s wedding is the same person who was found hanging dead with father Giovanni in Saddle Brook, NJ. The newspapers’ reporting of Massapequa, NY as where Peter resided at the time of death — or as where he was from — helped me find a tie to the woman who was also a witness to the wedding.
