I really hope we get more stories from this podcast. Not as slanted as “mob rats”SolarSolano wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 12:17 pm Visconti got his start with the mob because he was in a beef with Joe Colombo Jr. - and went to Angelo for protection. You would never learn details like that without these talking out in the open. Gotta love this new era of mob podcasts
My view is that this will be a podcast worth paying for potentially - and really the only one I've seen. This first one was phenomenal and this prosecutor was also involved in Basciano's case.

This was a great podcast, one of the best without a doubt. Looking forward to their future episodes.

More examples of the subtle cultural similarities between the Genovese and Chicago.

Prisco is an interesting guy for sure. Probably one of the more higher profile Genovese guys in modern times, and there's still not a ton known about him.
I'm trying to figure out how he ended up in Jersey and when he did, was the crew he was running considered one of the famed Jersey crews the Genovese have (like the Coppola, Bruschi, etc. crews)? Or did he run a Bronx crew from Jersey? He was an East Harlem guy, then went up to the Bronx . On the show it said he couldn't leave the state of NJ due to his release conditions. Did he move there himself, or did he just catch a case there and had to stay due to the parole?
Another interesting thing was that for a Harlem guy and a Purple Gang member, Mario Gigante out of all people was his inroad into the Genovese.
There's footage around of Prisco at that feast they still give in East Harlem in the summer, can't recall the name. Gotta be from the 70s or 80s. Its unreal to see Prisco strut around in it. Looked like a movie stereotype of a gangster before there even was a movie stereotype

Re: Podcast w/Michael Visctonti
Visconti stated that Prisco was in charge of an area, “starting in the Bronx and then northern New Jersey”. It’s unclear to me if he meant that Prisco just started his career in the Bronx before moving to NJ, or if he meant to say that Prisco’s territory as capo encompassed both the Bronx and NJ.newera_212 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 10, 2021 11:51 pm I'm trying to figure out how he ended up in Jersey and when he did, was the crew he was running considered one of the famed Jersey crews the Genovese have (like the Coppola, Bruschi, etc. crews)? Re: Podcast w/Michael Visctonti
They said this crew was still in NY while he was in NJ and they picked the bowling alley as a middle meet up spot weekly
Interesting how he had everyone meeting there including heads of other fams like Mancuso and Basciano
Any info on the zip ?

Re: Podcast w/Michael Visctonti
I’m no expert here, but my understanding is that Prisco succeeded DiGilio as NJ capo. So while Prisco was from Harlem/the Bx and many of his guys were from NY, he was in charge of a formally Jersey-based crew by the late ‘80s. I don’t think that his base in NJ was just the product of the stipulations of his parole. Maybe I’m wrong.
On another note, Wikipedia has Prisco as born in Melrose Park, IL. I haven’t been able to verify this so I’m not sure if it’s factual. From what I can tell, his father was Anthony Prisco, whose family was from Sarno, Salerno and there were/are Priscos in Chicago from Sarno, so there could be a link.

Re: Podcast w/Michael Visctonti
Angelo Nicosia, a Prisco crew associate who Visconti claimed he was about to kill with a fork to the neck (Visconti described him as a “punk” and a “zip”). Given the surname I would assume that he was (or is, I believe that he’s still alive) Sicilian.
In 2008 Nicosia, a resident of East Stroudsburg, PA at the time, was convicted of extorting an NJ construction contractor for the Prisco crew. Visconti’s testimony helped out him away. Incidentally, back in ‘97 another Prisco crew associate, Peter Rizzo, smashed a half-full coffee pot over this contractor’s head. This of course made me think of Richie Aprile and the Sopranos writers lifted many of their plot lines from real-life mob incidents, but I don’t know if this incident came to public light before the 2008 Nicosia case.
Anyone know of any actual made guys answering to Prisco? He was a captain, but from what I can tell all of the guys working for him were associates (?). According to the Honig podcast, Prisco’s main lieutenants were Visconti and John “Rocky” Melicharek (also convicted in 2008), and the latter was described by a federal prosecutor as as high-ranking as a non-Italian associate could be. Another crew member was Louis Pipolo, who apparently was the Chin’s nephew, but I don’t see any indication that he was made either?

Re: Podcast w/Michael Visctonti
Thanks. Makes sense that Nicosia would be deported after serving his sentence for the 2008 case.

Re: Podcast w/Michael Visctonti
Yeah, the info is accurate. He was released in March 2012 and deported. His wife talks a bit about him here:

Re: Podcast w/Michael Visctonti
Looks like Dion Nicosia did an episode of I Married A Mobster on her relationship with Angelo.

Ah, good catch Eboli!
