Podcast w/Michael Visctonti
This is an excellent podcast with Michael Visconti that I'm listening to today - a lot of wiretaps on Angelo Prisco some that may not have been heard previously - sorry but Pennisi and these guys cannot compete with this former federal prosecutor who can insert wiretaps and call up cooperators like this.
https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t ... 0534672181
Once a rising star in the Genovese crime family, Michael Visconti decided to leave the mafia and become a cooperating government witness. Visconti opens up to Elie Honig about his life and rise in the mob — how he first got mixed up with the mafia, the violent crimes he committed, and his decision to flip against his mob “family.”

Just started listening. These wiretap recordings are fucking gold.

On Angelo Prisco
"His mentor was Mario Gigante. He was very strong guy. He ran Purple Gang along with Danny Leo in Harlem, and they came up through the ranks together. The Genovese crime family had a lot of smoke and mirrors."

"Angelo was a drug dealer. So was Danny Leo. So was Vinny Gorgeous. Matter of fact, Vinny Gorgeous was partners with Angelo at one point. But came time in about ’77 when Mario Gigante told them to back off, because, “Books are opening up. You’re going to get straightened out,” and he did."

Re: Podcast w/Michael Visctonti
Vinny Gorgeous was also coming by their bowling alley in New Jersey to see Angelo - even when Basciano was boss if you match up the years. I think that is really interesting a boss driving to Jersey to meet a Capo on parole who can't leave the state.
Re: Podcast w/Michael Visctonti
Thanks for posting, SS. I like the podcast. It's a breath of fresh air - little to no bullshit, mostly facts. Some highlights:
- 'This life sucks. It ain't cracked up. It ain't what it's cracked up to be.'- Angelo Prisco on a wiretap talking about the modern mob.
- Genovese & Gambino currently at about 150 made guys + a few hundred associates each.
- Low-level Genovese soldiers and associates don't know who exactly calls the shots in the family.
- 'Steven Seagal is a Jewish actor. He's not a tough guy!' - Prisco explaining Seagal's extortion to his wired-up driver.
- Prisco's crew had more than 15 core members.
- Basciano and Mancuso often travelled to NJ to speak with Prisco.
- Government witness Michael Visconti didn't come from a mob family. He was viewed as an outlier and as a capable stand-up guy.
- Generally speaking, mobsters don't want to plead guilty to drug charges, no matter how small they are. There's still a stigma in the mafia about dealing drugs, despite the fact many of them are doing it.
- Prisco calling people cock-a-roaches like Tony Montana.
- Visconti seriously considered killing Genovese associate Angelo Nicosia.
- Visconti isn't ashamed about testifying. He felt Prisco screwed him over and there was no love lost there. Prisco put several hits on him, including an attorney who was supposed to do the job.

Re: Podcast w/Michael Visctonti
I just got my first I phone
And it’s like a revolution with these podcasts I love it. I use to watch them off YouTube before but that’s to much complicated and doesn’t go in order or there just clips
There’s a whole bunch of different podcasts on the mafia. So far Original Gangsters with Scott and Jimmy B is on non stop play list and it’s great
Even gives shout outs here!

Re: Podcast w/Michael Visctonti
Visconti got his start with the mob because he was in a beef with Joe Colombo Jr. - and went to Angelo for protection. You would never learn details like that without these talking out in the open. Gotta love this new era of mob podcasts
My view is that this will be a podcast worth paying for potentially - and really the only one I've seen. This first one was phenomenal and this prosecutor was also involved in Basciano's case.

Re: Podcast w/Michael Visctonti
I think JD/LCN bios was the first person to publish these wiretaps publicly.
Re: Podcast w/Michael Visctonti
Crazy how he flipped over 5 yrs
Re: Podcast w/Michael Visctonti
He flipped over 5 yrs thats a bad look on who brought him around. Frank coppa from the bonannos started there whole defections collapse cause he couldnt do another 5 7yrs for a extortion.
Re: Podcast w/Michael Visctonti
According to Visconti, doing 3-5 years wasn't a problem for him. He was a first-time offender; the original prosecutor was willing to make almost any deal in order to close the case asap. He flipped because The Horn fucked him over. Visconti wanted to plead guilty, Prisco told him no. Nobody was going to plead guilty, then Prisco plead guilty behind Visconti's back. Elie Honig pretty much confirms this. The FBI had to put in work to find a prosecutor willing to build a case based on Visconti's info.

Re: Podcast w/Michael Visctonti
This is awesome but one thing I thought was weird was when Honig was replaying / recapping Prisco talking about the Segal thing, and the lawyer coming to visit him, he said "There it is, a mobster talking openly about shaking down Segal, and even threatening Segal's lawyer"
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Angelo complaining about the fact that Segal was being shaken down in the first place? He asked the Gambinos to lay off, they said no, and when Segal flipped - they sent the lawyer to talk to Angelo to see if he could do something. When Angelo figured out why the lawyer was there, he threatened the lawyer (rightfully so). A true "told ya so" moment - Angelo said leave the guy alone , alluding he could goto the cops. He did go to the cops, and when the Gambinos sent that lawyer to talk to Angelo to see if Segal could reverse course, it was almost like a slap in the face. The guy in LA who knew Segal was being shaken down was Prisco's cousin; Prisco wasn't shaking Segal and Segal's lawyer down

Re: Podcast w/Michael Visctonti
Technically he was incriminating Ciccone shaking down Segal. Maybe that is what Honig was getting at -newera_212 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 10, 2021 9:11 am This is awesome but one thing I thought was weird was when Honig was replaying / recapping Prisco talking about the Segal thing, and the lawyer coming to visit him, he said "There it is, a mobster talking openly about shaking down Segal, and even threatening Segal's lawyer"
